The new search options, earlier spotted in Windows 11 22H2 builds, are now coming to its predecessor.

After installing KB5017383, build 22000.1042 in Windows 11 version 21H2, you will be able to activate a new layout for the search button in the taskbar, or turn into a textbox.

KB5017383 was recently released as an optional update. On consumer side it enables dynamic notifications from Widgets. The search options are a hidden feature that includes 3 variants.

Download ViveTool, extract it to c:\vivetool, and run as administrator:

c:\vivetool\vivetool /enable /id:39263329 /variant:X ( use 1, 3 or 5 instead of X)

Now restart the explorer shell to apply the change.

There are two more issues with Windows 11 version 2022 Update.

1️⃣Remote Desktop users on Windows 11 22H2 report freezes and disconnections. For some of them, RDP simply fails to connect to the remote computer. You can try to mitigate this bug by disabling UDP for RDP.
2️⃣The broken provisioning is mentioned on the Health Status page for Windows 11. Windows might only be partially configured, and the Out Of Box Experience might not finish or might restart unexpectedly.

Besides, there are issues with printer drivers, large file copy bug that causes performance degrades, and compatibility issues with Intel SST.
Windows 11 Build 25217 (Dev channel) is out

▪️Developers with packaged Win32 apps will be able to create and test 3rd party widgets locally if their machine is running in Developer Mode under Settings > Privacy & security > For developers. Developers will also need to be on the latest Insider Preview build from the Dev Channel to get the necessary update for the Widgets Board (version 521.20060.1205.0 or higher).
▪️The cloud suggestion in Simplified Chinese IME adds the most relevant word from Bing to the IME candidate window.
▪️The new Tamil Anjal keyboard for the Tamil language is now available to all Insiders.
▪️A new video calling experience for Chat. The app displays your own video and a list of people you can start chatting with. Starting a video call is now faster, even with users without Chat and Teams. Just send a link to the call via SMS or email and start a conversation right in the Chat.
▪️Various fixes and general improvements.

Microsoft has issued official recommendations that may help you improve performance of games in Windows 11. According to the company, disabling some virtualization features have positive impact on gaming experience.

Virtual Machine Platform and Memory integrity (part of Core isolation) are the two features that may slow down games.

What Microsoft recommends is to disable Virtual Machine Platform and Memory integrity before starting a game, and re-enable both after you finish the game session. Microsoft insists on keeping them both enabled for a security reason. There is a high chance that hardcore gamers will keep both options off.

Microsoft didn't name a specific Windows 11 version that is affected by this issue. Looks like both its stable versions, which are 21H2 and the newest 22H2 are affected.
Windows 11 build 25217, which was yesterday released to Insiders in the Dev channel, allows you to change the search position and look on the taskbar. It also brings with it a new option in Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Items > Search that defines how it should look, as a button, text box, or stay hidden.

To unlock the new functionality, do the following

1) Download ViveTool
2) Run the following command as Admin (e.g. in Terminal): c:\vivetool\vivetool /enable /id:40887771
3) Restart Windows 11

It is a work in progress and still a bit buggy. Here, it doesn't actually show me the textbox when the appropriate option is selected in Settings.
Along with the latest Dev channel build, Microsoft is rolling out an updated Microsoft Store app. It improves the game listing, so you can clearly see if a game is available through Game Pass, and the price. Besides, there are performance improvements that make the Store even more fast and fluid.

Microsoft has confirmed another issue in the Windows 11 2022 Update (version 22H2) that may cause some users to experience issues using Windows Hello, which is responsible for face and fingerprint recognition, and PIN authentication.

Users are forced to type a password for their local or online account.

Microsoft accidentally revealed next-gen Windows UI prototype with floating taskbar

It sports a floating taskbar, something that company earlier denied to be a thing. But in one of the screenshots the taskbar appears with rounder corners floating on the desktop. Besides, system tray items appear in the screenshot at the top of the desktop. Also at the top are search and weather widgets.

The conceptual Windows UI was shown in the context of Surface Studio, so Microsoft might be considering it as an option for touch screen devices.

Microsoft announced DirectStrorage 1.1 will greatly improved performance

With DirectStorage 1.0, Microsoft made reading game assets much faster thanks to new APIs that go well with NVMe disks.

DirectStorage 1.1 moves the decompression of resources to the GPU side. GPUs can efficiently perform repeatable tasks in parallel, so combined with NVMe, the amount of time it takes for an asset to load decreases. Microsoft's test show that scenes are loading nearly 3x faster.

To have best gaming experience, you need an NVMe SSD, and any DirectX 12 capable GPU that supports Shader Model 6.0.
