Today's Dev channel update is pretty boring. There are no new features included.

The full build tag is 10.0.25151.1000.rs_prerelease.220625-1835. It includes fixes for File Explorer tabs and context menus, Windows Security, and printing.

We fixed an issue that occurs when the Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (AD LDS) resets the password for userProxy objects. When you try to reset someone else’s password and you are authenticated using a simple bind, the password reset fails. The error is like, “00000005: SvcErr: DSID-03380C23, problem 5003 (WILL_NOT_PERFORM), data 0”.


We fixed an issue that prevents Microsoft Edge from being available in Windows Sandbox.

AdDuplex: Windows 11 share reached 23%

By the end of June 2022, Windows 11's market share had crossed the 23% mark. Over the past two months, the growth was 3.4%. So its popularity is growing very slow. It still holds the third position, with Windows 10 May 2021 Update (version 21H1) as second most popular system in the Windows family. Windows 10 21H2 is the most used OS.

Microsoft has released newer Windows 11 virtual machines

The machines don't require activation but work for a limited period of time. They come with Windows 11 Enterprise with Visual Studio 2022 (with the UWP, .NET Desktop, Azure, and Windows App SDK for C# workloads), Windows Subsystem for Linux with Ubuntu, Developer mode, and Windows Terminal installed.

The VM are available for download in VMWare, Hyper-V, VirtualBox, and Parallels format here.

Windows 11 Preview Builds 22621.290 and 22622.290 are in Beta

The company decided to split insiders into two groups.

1) The first group will receive builds 22622.xxx with new features
2) The second group of users will receive builds 22621.xxx, in which new features will be disabled by default.

🆕New features include 🔎search suggestions and ☁️OneDrive subscription options in Settings. Note that even in this case Microsoft is still running A/B testing before making the changes available to the every Insider.

If you are in the second group with no new features but want them, check for updates and install the KB5015669 optional update that will move you to build 22622.xxx.

Windows 11 22H2 has been released, No need to join insider program now, go to windows update and install from there.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25211 restores Task Manager in the taskbar context menu. FINALLY.

It also includes a new Settings page for Widgets, and features auto-save screenshot option in the Snipping tool.

Besides the new Dev channel build ☝️, Microsoft released Windows 11 builds 22621.730 and 22623.730 to the Beta channel.

ℹ️Build 22623.730 has new features, and Build 22621.730 comes with new features disabled by default. The new features are:

▪️Tablet-optimized taskbar - a newer taskbar is available to Beta channel Insiders with this build. It supports two states, collapsed and expanded, to make the OS more convenient for tablet users. Microsoft is rolling out this feature gradually, so you may not see it instantly after upgrading.
▪️A rounded focus and hover treatment on all icons in the system tray. Again, this is rolling out gradually.
▪️The Home folder in File Explorer can now search Microsoft 365 cloud files for users who are signed with their Microsoft account.
▪️File Explorer search will now show results as you type. The full search results page will update live without needing to press enter.

Windows 11 22H2 users suffer from printing issues

For some users it removed all network printers, and for others it eliminates most of the printer's functionality.

With Windows 11 version 22H2, Microsoft introduced a new group policy, "Configure RPC Connection settings." Its default settings prevent the operating system discovers network printers. So it removes all remote printers, and fails to add them back.

Another issue is related to the Universal Print Class Driver. Due to a bug, Windows 11 fails to populate printer's capabilities after you disconnect or turn off the device. If you reconnect the printer, its features will be limited to generic printing options. It may be impossible to configure two-side printing, paper type, size, DPI and color. Microsoft has set the driver type as a reason for an upgrade block.

Microsoft has issued the first cumulative update for the brand new Windows 11 version 22H2. The KB5017389 patch is currently available as an optional update for those who run "Windows 11 2022 Update." It comes with several fixes, and also adds enhancements like Widgets notifications, reliability updates for the Microsoft Store, improvements for daylight saving time in Chile, and more.

After installing KB5017389, you will have Windows 11 Build 22621.608.

The changes included in this preview patch will be part of the upcoming Patch Tuesday. You can choose not to install a preview update if you don't need a specific fix from it right now.

With the release of the latest Dev build of Windows 11, number 25211, Scissors learned how to automatically save screenshots taken to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

One more bug affects the newly released Windows 11 2022 Update, version 22H2. When copying large files from a network share, the operation can perform really slow. A large (multi-gigabyte) file can have up to 40% less throughput compared to SMB when copying (reading).

Principal Program Manager in the Windows Server engineering group, Ned Pyle, recommends using alternative solutions to copy large files, such as robocopy with the /J argument. It tells the app not to use input-output buffers.

Sadly, the issue is not exclusive to network files and SMB. The bug can be reproduced on the local file system as well.

“Moment 1” features for Windows 11 22H2’s October update now available in Release Preview

Microsoft has published a guide on how to create third-party Windows 11 widgets

The documentation exposes fundamental principles the developer have to follow. It also explains how to declare a widget using "Adaptive Cards" and JSON. By following the guidelines, you'll be able to create a widget that work flawlessly with any size and position in the dashboard. You will also learn how to add interactive controls, and overall UI elements.

Widgets are the area of Microsoft's focus these days. Just a few days ago they received options to prevent the Widget pane from opening on hover and to make the flyout full-screen.

Interestingly that there is no single word on when exactly third-party widgets will be available to users.

Windows 11 22H2 is now available to more users

More people will see the upgrade offer in Settings, as result of a "new phase of rollout".

There are still computers that will not have the upgrade offer because of the confirmed issues with printers, sound drivers, and even with dynamic disks. Users who created a dynamic disk in addition to basic partitions will have to convert it to basic, otherwise Windows 11 will fail it install.

Finally, there is also an issue with large file copy operation which has up to 40% performance degradation, and it is not yet resolved.

if you die hard to try Windows 11 22H2, but your device still doesn't show the upgrade option, you can try to install it manually by downloading the official ISO image, or any of the available tools for that.
