Windows 11 Build 22000.708 add Windows Spotlight for Desktop to the stable version of the OS

Microsoft reissued the KB5014019 patch, which was first available last week, on May 19. The patch was initially released to Insiders running Windows 11 in the Release Preview channel. Today, it is available to everyone on the stable version of the OS. So, if you want to add Windows Spotlight to Desktop, you can install this update.

After restarting Windows 11, you will be able to enable Windows Spotlight on the desktop.

The rest didn't change since the Release Preview patch. The full list of changes is here.
ℹ️Microsoft actually confirmed Windows 11 22H2 RTM build and its release date

There is a new post on the Tech Community forum for hardware partners. It is aboute to the Windows Hardware Compatibility Program (WHCP). The RTM build of version 22H2 is clearly mentioned:

Windows 11, version 22H2 certification build
Minimum acceptable build for Windows 11, version 22H2 certification is RTM build(i.e. 22621).

The company also announced that they start accepting WHCP program submissions for Windows 11 version 22H2 on May 31. Applications will be accepted until September 5, 2022. This means that the public release of the first major update for Windows 11 should be expected at the end of September or in October 2022.

🇫🇷 Windows Subsystem for Android is coming to 5 more countries

Currently, it is only available in the US, but enthusiasts can get it working anywhere by installing it manually. Microsoft has announced that users in France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK will also soon be able to officially test WSA.

WSA comes with the Amazon app store that only shows the Android applications that have been tested for compatibility with WSA. Microsoft claimed at Build 2022 that it will now receive a new portion of apps every month.

Meanwhile, you can sideload Android APKs directly to use more on WSA. Also, you can install Google Play on WSA and enjoy the full set of apps available on regular smartphones and tablets.

🆕Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25126 is out to the Dev Channel

In earlier released builds, you could go to Settings > Accounts to manage your Microsoft 365 subscription. Starting with today's build, you can also view all supported Office perpetual products such as Office 2021 or Office 2019 associated with your account.

It will allow you to view all supported Microsoft 365 Office products licensed to your account and you can view details about your product or install Office by clicking the “View Details” button.

Besides, there are several fixes. Upgrading to the latest Insider Preview Build should no longer cause a BSoD for some. If explorer.exe has hung, that should no longer hang Task Manager.

Clipchamp got a new icon! 🔥

In the fall of 2021, Microsoft bought the startup Clipchamp, which developed the service of the same name for creating and editing videos in a web browser.

Later, Microsoft included Clipchamp in Windows 11 as a system application, while retaining the original icon (logo) of the service, which stood out noticeably from the Fluent icons of other system applications.

Now, literally today or yesterday, Microsoft released an update to Clipchamp in the Dev channel (or not only in the Dev channel?). It's hard to say what changes were made at first glance, but the new Fluent-style app icon immediately caught my eye.

Microsoft is releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25131 to the Dev Channel. The official announcement doesn't claim any new feature. It only includes various fixes, and a new version of the Microsoft Store app.

The latter has been updated to version 22205.1401.3.0 with improvements for ARM64. Also, the running apps, when installing updates from the Store, won't close automatically. So you won't lose your work.

🐞 A vulnerability allows running a Windows search from MS Office files without user interaction

There is a new zero-day vulnerability in Windows Search that allows opening a malformed search window, say with remotely-hosted malware executables. Combined with a flaw in Microsoft Office OLEObject, it allows bypassing Protected View launching URI protocol handlers without user interaction, including Windows Search.

💡Before Microsoft releases a fix for this vulnerability, the user can simply unregister the search protocol. Backup the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\search-ms registry key, then remove it.

The direct commands (run them in the Admin command prompt or Terminal)

1) reg export HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\search-ms "%userprofile%\Desktop\search-ms.reg"
2) reg delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\search-ms /f
