Heartland men took to the woods last weekend to practice their traditional archery skills, hike through the woods, and sit down for a meal together.

We are accused of “preparing for violence” as if this were some great sin. Our detractors claim we are violent ruffians planning for a great war. The reality is, we in America have lived in a very peculiar bubble in history for the last century. A brief window in history where war and unrest have not threatened most Americans in their homeland, those struggles being deferred to a professional military and relegated to far off foreign lands. The peace we have enjoyed is not reflective of the reality of history and human nature. We believe that life is struggle, that those without a will to fight do not deserve to continue, that conflict is unavoidable in the future. Violence is unavoidable, we must be ready to protect ourselves and our families when the horrors of war may find us.
