GENDER AND SEX.

#PRONOUNS : People may be asking whats the difference between sex and gender so please do put your attention on this!

Gender is a social construct and merely denotes the social and cultural role of sex within a given community. Gender itself is divided into three; gender identity, gender expression, and sexual characteristic.

I. Gender expression is a characteristic which is shown from how does someone behave, act, and show their appereance.

II. Gender identity is personal, it’s the way people perceive themselves with a certain gender.

III. “Sex” or what you called as biologycal sex or natal sex refers to the physical differences between people who are male, female, or intersex. There’s also a condition named transexual. A person typically has their sex assigned at birth based on physiological characteristics, including their genitalia and chromosome composition.

Someone who identifies with the gender that they were assigned at birth is called “cisgender.” While someone who is not cisgender and does not identify within the gender binaryㅡof man or woman, boy or girl. May identify as nonbinary, genderfluid, or genderqueer, among other identities.

LIST OF PRONOUNS.
COMMON PRONOUNS

She/Her/Her/Hers/Herself
He/Him/His/His/Himself
They/Them/Their/Theirs/Themself

In English, grammatically pronouns are neither feminine, masculine, or neutral like French or Arabic are. However, people grew up to assigning people with ‘She/Her’ or ‘He/Him’ based on whether they ‘look’ feminine or masculine. For example, people see cisgender people like women are associated with She/Her, and the men use He/Him. This categorization is a social construct incorporated into languages.

When, in fact, pronouns are not inherently equal sex. What someone uses to identify themselves is not a pointer towards their gender that they were born with. For the sake of someone’s personal convenience, people that join the community (mostly genderqueers) prefer to use ‘They/Them’ as a pronoun for gender neutrality.

Aside from that, even though a person may fit the look of how generally used definition that one of these pronouns may perceived, it doesn’t mean that they want us to identify them that way. For example, a feminine person who uses ‘She/Her’ pronouns, personally may not want to be identified this way. It’s best for us to ask them about how they identify themselves.

She is eating the cake.
He is eating the cake.
They are eating the cake.

The ‘They’ can be identified as a group of people or a singular genderqueer person.

For "They/Them" reflexive pronouns, you can use “themself” or “themselves”. Some people will have a preference for using either “themself” or “themselves.” For example;

They can use the toaster themself.
They only have themselves to blame.

W/N: To simplify the explanations, we’ll use ‘themself’ as an example.

MULTIPLE PRONOUNS

A person could use more than one set of pronouns. For example:
• She/They
• He/They
• She/He/They
• She/(Any neo pronouns)
• (..or any preferred ones)

Let’s take this case as an example;
You see a “He/They” pronouns on someone’s profile. How and which pronouns should you use?

—Use He/They interchangeably. You can use “He” or “They” in a sentence by alternating them whatever you like. If you were in doubt, you can ask the person which one they preferred to be the most mentioned. Because however, some people also prefer to just use one pronoun per sentence to avoid any confusion. Usually, some people with multiple pronouns preferred to be called by the first-mentioned ones, but some other don’t mind about it.

He’s eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They would get sick since they were allergic to peanuts.

W/N: Use one of he/his/him/himself or they/them/their/themself/themselves instead of using both in a sentence to prevent any misunderstanding.

NEO PRONOUNS

Neo pronouns are a set of any third-person pronouns that are not she, he, they or it. It is valid and has been used commonly by transgender and GNC (Gender Nonconformity) communities for a long time, but you can still use it if you weren’t apart of them. It is basically intended to make the pronouns not implied to significant gender.

Neo pronouns are used in place of someone’s name, which means their names don’t carry their gender (like the assumption that a feminine name belongs only to people with “she/her” pronouns, etc).

Common neo pronouns:
(using he/him/his/his/himself format)

xe/xem/xyr/xyrs/xemself
fae/faer/faer/faers/faerself
ve/ver/vis/vis/verself
ae/aer/aer/aers/aerself
zie/hir/hir/hirs/hirself
per/per/pers/pers/perself
e/em/eir/eirs/emself

Xe doesn’t wake up when xyr alarm goes on.
Disclaimer: It’s okay if you felt confused or messed up the words, just simply correct yourself and move on. Don’t make a big deal out of it, since it’s still a new concept for many!

PEOPLE THAT DON’T WANT TO BE REFERRED WITH ANY KINDS OF PRONOUNS

There are also people who do not want to position themselves in a third point of view with any pronouns, basically the opposite of any pronouns.

Simply use their name in the context of any sentence.

Anne’s hand is burning when Anne touched the mug.

👤 Jadi penulisan kaya she%her tuh boleh ya? Tp kenapa banyak yg salty?
👤 Bantu jawab sender bawah, She%Her tuh gaboleh ya. Orang pengidap diseleksia susah buat bacanya.
👤 bukannya yg boleh itu cmn she/her, She/Her, SHE/HER? cmiiw
👤 i dont think that we’re allowed to use she%her… its hard to read for those who has disabilities

thank you for the questions you guys!! begini, yaaa. people with dyslexia memang udah punya kesulitan membaca (ada tingkatannya, probably) to begin with. jadii, mau pemisah pronoun kamu itu pakai / - % dsb itu tetap aja mereka mengalami “kesusahan” dalam membaca karena /keadaan/ mereka memang kayak gitu?? yang bakalan somehow hurt them itu kalau kamu nulisnya sh3/h£r?! atau pakai fancy fonts she/her.

👤 sender ke 2, emg yg bener bukan misgendering but feel invalidated, dismissed, alienated. ngawur yg blg misgendering
👤 yang di bawah gw, t-tapi itu tulisannya pronouns is gender expression kok..
👤 pronouns isn't gender but when we mispronouncing their pronouns, it's called misgendering, it's contradictive. why?

tmn-tmn yuk baca dulu a whole texts that my and i friend have written 😔😟 PRONOUNS ARE GENDER IDENTITY. which means, GENDER IS INCLUDING PRONOUNS. pronouns itu jati diri gender kalian gitu loh guys bisa baca selengkapnya di https://t.iss.one/ListCWTW/74 yeah. so that’s also why if you do mispronouncing other’s pronouns it’d be called as misgendering karenaaa pronouns memang termasuk gender??@?@ and we didn’t close the chance of yours telling that your feeling is addressed as invalidated, dismissed, alienated, or whatever you name it. you choose!

👤 maksud dari pronouns ≠ sex gimana ya? huhu masih gak ngerti D:
👤 menurutku pronouns ≠ sex lebih masuk akal daripada pronouns ≠ gender

100 buat sender bawah!! that’s what we actually have said kaan semalam, pronoun is gender expression and pronoun is not sex. buat sender ataas, sex di sini maksudnya itu what’s inside your pants, what’s between your legs. sedangkan pronouns itu lebih ke ... ekspresi gender kamu. semisal sex kamu itu cowo, tapi kamu anggap gender kamu itu lebih feminine dan kamu lebih nyaman dianggap perempuan tuh enggak pa-pa. you’re valid! even when you’re not doing any kinds of injury for transexual, you can still address yourself as a girl.

👤 Tmn gw kmrn ada yg pke pronouns nya SHE/ESH, trus dia diserang di twitter. Katanya ga ngehargai lgbtq+. Salahnya dmn ya?

people tend to make she/esh as a joke, contohnya kayak:
"my gender construct now is swag bcs she/esh"
"my pronouns are she/esh bcs my life is SHEEESHH"

"sheeesh" itu sendiri kaya slang english yang artinya sama kayak "njirrrrr" 😟😭 makanya temen kamu diserang, karena pronouns itu memang enggak ada dan biasanya dijadiin candaan.

👤 Buat yang suka becandain pronouns juga tolong jangan diulangin. He/he/he/he
👤 rt sender 8 juga. "bukan sulap bukan si/hir."
👤 rt sender 8, that's kinda annoying asf. dan kalo km pikir "he/he/he" gt lucu, sama sekali engga ya 👍🏻
👤 She/eesshh, sl/ut, wh/ore it's not neo pronouns.

betull!! yang masih suka bercandain neo pronouns jangan lagi yaa it’s made for addressing someone’s identity looh, yang masih suka pakai he/ngab, he/mas, he/bang, he/aa, dad/dy, she/adek, she/teteh, she/kakak, mom/my udahan yuk that’s not the right way you can use it. >:

👤 ga semua kata bisa dijadiin neopronouns..

exactlyy! makanya kami tulis dari awal banget dipenjelasan kita, don’t make a joke over pronouns. to make a new neo pronoun jadi official itu susah, someone has to go through just because they want to be validated. so you can’t joke around and make all words to be your neo pronouns.

👤 Maaf masih kurang paham untuk neo pronouns. Kalau kita bukan komunitas transgender & GNC, apa boleh pakai neo pronouns?

seperti yang udah kita bilang sebelumnya, kalau kalian bukan termasuk GNC atau transgender, boleh pakai neo pronouns selagi kamu emang nyaman pake itu. basically, enggak ada larangan buat di luar komunitas itu buat pakai pronouns apapun yaa. :D

👤 i wanna ask a question sihh, boleh gasih kita tuh fine with any pronouns but sexuality kita straight?
👤 di twitter ada yg make pronoun they/them tapi ngaku straight

pronoun has no relation with sexuality.. that’s why we say that pronoun is gender but pronoun isn’t sex. you can choose what’s pronoun suit you the best and sexuality that you desire the most.
