IDF publishes footage showing troops of the Navy's elite Shayetet 13 commando unit retaking the Sufa military post on the Gaza border from Palestinian fighters on Saturday.

The use of the Shayetet 13 in such an operation displays the dire situation that was on the ground that day. Shayetet's role was never intended for such operations.

Israeli journalist Almong Boker reports that the town of Sderot in southern Israel will be evacuated as has the rest of the Gaza border communities in the envelope around the area.

In the surprise attack carried out by Hamas, lethal means made by Iran were used but were unknown to the Israeli security establishment.

Among other things, air-thermal fuel bombs were used, which after detonation cause a fire at an extremely high temperature.

Earlier this year , the Israeli Navy bought 2 American landing vessels to boost IDF's capacity to stage raids from sea.

The Landing craft are used primarily to transport and tactically deploy soldiers, equipment, vehicles, and supplies from ship to shore for the conduct of offensive military operations.

The landing craft will be embedded with a new squadron formed by the INF at the Ashdod Naval Base.
