Iran: A catastrophic malfunction in the launch of a ballistic missile happened today in the city of Gorgan (Golestan Province) just two weeks after Iran announced it foiled an Israeli attempt to supply its industry with thousands of defective missile parts through third parties. The Asian Games are an “attention grabber” (AP): 12,000 participants, more than in the Summer Olympics (10,500 are expected next year in Paris). There are many games you won’t find in the Olympics: cricket (will be in the Olympics from 2028), squash, dragon boat racing, sepaktakraw (kick volleyball), ju-jitsu, wushu (Chinese martial art), kabaddi (Desi contact sport), kurash (Central Asian wrestling), and so-called “mind sports”: bridge, chess, xiangqi (Chinese chess), e-sports. Among Olympic sports, nine will offer qualification spots for Paris, including boxing, hockey, and water polo.
Lebanon will compete in 11 sports. “We are very close to winning a medal in shooting, weightlifting and judo competitions”, Francois Saade, chief of Lebanon's Judo Federation, told Chinese media. Lebanese judokas were training with their Iraqi counterparts in Jounieh.
