3. Important Meaning Difference (EXAM TRAP ⚠️)

Compare:

✔ She didn’t need to apologize.
→ She probably did not apologize.

✔ She needn’t have apologized
→ She did apologize, but it was unnecessary.

👉 This distinction is very important for IELTS & advanced grammar.

4. Passive Use (Exception)

Need + V-ing = passive meaning

✔ The house needs cleaning.
✔ Your essay needs checking.
