Well, first:

a) it depends from country to country!!!!!!!!! In Switzerland for example to study economics, health, food technology, etc. YOU NEED TO WASTE 1 YEAR BEFORE starting to study such things! exactly like if you wish to study at ETHZ or somewhere else!

- i candidati che non sono in possesso di una maturità socio-sanitaria iniziano la formazione dopo aver svolto un anno di “moduli complementari” costituiti da settimane di formazione a scuola e di formazione pratica in istituzioni sociosanitarie https://perma.cc/4H9F-6YA4

- La passerella “maturità professionale / specializzata – scuole universitarie” è un esame complementare alla MP o specializzata il cui superamento permette l’accesso agli studi presso le università e le alte scuole pedagogiche svizzere https://perma.cc/5LDZ-EHWT

- Vor dem Studium müssen Sie mindestens ein Jahr praktische Erfahrung im Berufsalltag gesammelt oder eine Lehre in einem Bereich abgeschlossen haben, der mit dem Studiengebiet verwandt ist https://perma.cc/24HU-VNP9

c) students can fail / need to repeat the year or whatever: for example ETHZ "Das Bachelor-Studium ist auf eine Regelstudienzeit von drei Jahren (6 Semestern) ausgerichtet. Die maximal
zulässige Studiendauer beträgt fünf Jahre" and remember around 30-50% of all students will not pass exams!
