Frankish germans didn't calls themselves "german" in any way. They called german language *þeudiskaz ("of the people") which became Deutsch. Deutschland literally means "land of the language of the people". Germania was a random word perhaps of celtic origin for a region where there were some of the tribes that spoke certain dialects of Deutsch and it didn't even include Austria. Germans literally have no unifying concepts except that of descending from eastern Charlemagne's Empire, not even language since "Germany" is full of dialects.

What's more is that Bavarian identity is much stronger than german. Austria is a much more legit country than Germany. Autria is not even part of roman "Germania". They were already a unified duchy when germans still remained tribes that slowly joined franks. Austria should just take over Bayern region of Germany since they are the same peoples. They did try it already with the "Potato War" though

First "Germany" was eastern francia, then a holy roman empire, only then they became "german" with something like "german confederation". like what? huh? Is Germany trans?
