Interpretation:
The little tree wanted leaves of gold - a Jew raids them (out of greed).
Then it wanted leaves of glass - a whirlwind sheds them (no moral judgement on the force of nature).
Then it wanted green leaves - a goat eats them (Out of necessity to produce milk for its young). When the tree gets its needles back it's happy and content. Now it can sting again. No longer minds being laughed at. Just as Germany which needed sharp needles to protect itself. Not caring what its neighbours had or were saying about it.
