"The nation which had come into being in Cormac’s day was a nation comparable to antique Greece or Fascist Italy. It must have abounded with energies that it drew from an intense excitement of racial consciousness. The sense of nationality in the Old Irish…
"This then is my foster mother, the island in which ye are, Ireland, and the familiar knee of this island is the hill on which you stand, namely Tara. Moreover, it is the mast and the produce, the flowers and the food of this island that have sustained me since the Deluge."

Fintan Mac Bóchra praises Ireland in 𝗦𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗿𝗮 (The Settling of the Manor of Tara). Important medieval text which draws on ancient material and demonstrates consciousness of an Irish nation and race. Fintan was the only person in Ireland to survive the Great Flood and therefore possessed knowledge of the island's remote history. Summoned to Tara during a dispute among the nobles over how Ireland should be divided. He gets them to agree to maintain the five ancient provinces.

Tintown 1939 - 1946

On the 14th of December 1940, 500 Irish citizens interned without trial rioted in their prison camp, burning a large part of it to the ground. The Irish government crushed the insurrection without mercy. It was the last battle of the Irish Civil War.

An ill-thought out attempt to escape by setting fire to the camp backfired when their network of escape tunnels was discovered. When a second attempt to tunnel out failed, and a 50 day hunger strike left the Government unmoved, morale was broken. Hundreds left the IRA and by the time the camp closed in 1946, there was no IRA.

In an adjoining camp, the Allied and German internees lived the life of Reilly, allowed to leave the camp on parole to attend dances, spend the pay forwarded from Berlin and London on drink and women. They had free passes to attend the races at the Curragh, and enjoyed life so much that when the day of release came, some tried to hide to avoid going home.
The Irish government was satisfied that they had won.

The Minister for Justice, Gerald Boland said: The IRA is dead and I killed it.

IAN PAISLEY - KINCORA BOY'S HOME COVER-UP SCANDAL

The Kincora Boys' Home was a boys' home in Belfast, Northern Ireland that was the scene of serious organised child sexual abuse, causing a scandal and attempted cover-up in 1980, with allegations of state collusion.

Ian Paisley, leader of the Democratic Unionist Party and moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church which he founded in 1951, was accused of failing to report McGrath's abuse to the relevant authorities. He initially denied ever being advised by his informant, a church member, Valerie Shaw, that it was taking place. Paisley later gave other versions acknowledging learning from Shaw about McGrath's homosexuality.

A picture from October 1921. The man in the middle is Kevin O'Higgins, the groom, Dev on his right and on his left is Rory O'Connor, his best man. O'Connor was the Director of Engineering in the IRA. As Minister for Justice, O'Higgins signed O'Connor's execution…
"Remember it is sweet and glorious to die for ones country. There were three others brought out with me, Liam Mellows, Rory O'Connor and Joe McKelvey. I presume that these three great men will pay the full penalty for loving Ireland. They will be a great loss to the cause of Irish freedom. They too, like me, regret that the executioners should be Irishmen. In the past they were English but the cause is the same, holy and triumphant...

I was not as good a son or as loving a brother as I might have been. I have caused you all a lot of worry and uneasiness but I know you will forgive me. The services of Ireland demand the giving up or perhaps in many cases the breaking of some family ties and dear friendships, but this is more than compensated for, because in the service of our Mother land we make acquaintanceship with the greatest of men. Men whose souls are in Communion with the spirits of our great martyred heroes. I hope that we shall meet in heaven sure it will be only a few years at most''
