Absolutely unbelievable, first the NIO, then DUP and now NI Secretary Brandon Lewis tells that the PSNI Chief Constable Simon Byrne has spoken to David Campbell, chair of the Loyalist Communities Council - a group representing Loyalist Paramilitaries currently…
Actual two tier policing and collusion with loyalist paramilitaries going on up North against Irish Catholic/Nationalists meanwhile the New Planters are going off about imaginary two tier policing of ethnic minorities down South and scoffing at the idea of caring what’s going on up North + waffling on about muh racism etc

>A further complication for nationalist Ireland was that many of Dublin’s Jews were ‘very firmly unionist to begin with’

>A number of successful Irish Jews were Freemasons and mixed socially with Protestant unionists.

While early 20th-century Irish nationalists identified with the Boers, Dublin’s Jews were seen as pro-British in this period, leading to some inter-communal tension. Indeed prior to the Great War many Jews regarded the United Kingdom as a haven from persecution.

As Bethel Solomons, a medical student in Dublin during the revolutionary period explained, though he ‘loved Ireland … Great Britain tries to be a just and tolerant nation and is the safest place in the world for those who are likely to be victims of intolerance … especially people of my own Jewish race’.

''Jews had been a negative influence, because (1) they are, and will remain, aliens, in most countries; (2) their codes of honour and morals are not Christian; (3) that in business and otherwise, they act together, throughout a country (and even from one nation to another, at times) like Freemasons; (4) that a benefactor to their poor can influence their votes, through their Rabbi; (5) that, as an Orangeman’s religion is commonly hatred of the Pope, so the Debased Jews, when they lose their faith, retain a racial antagonism to Christians.''

- George Noble Plunkett, father of Joseph Plunkett and was Dáil minister for foreign affairs, text was from a a long letter to Éamon de Valera

He went on to claim that Jews and Freemasons together were responsible for the Great War, that both now dominated France and were seeking to destroy the papacy. In Britain, Plunkett claimed, the press was ‘largely owned and controlled by Jews’ hence its ‘dealing with Irish affairs is abominable. It is corrupt through want of principle, no less than from an anxiety for profit.
Plunkett asserted that the ‘Jewish interest in England is capitalist, the Jews are the “sweaters”.’ He also suggested that Italy ‘has been a tool in their hands. They publish pornographic journals, for a bad Jew shows his racial hatred of Christians by corrupting them.’ In Austria too ‘the Jews got a good grip on the press’. The Romanian historian and nationalist activist Nicolae Iorga had given Plunkett a ‘painful account … of the state of slavery to which the Jews had brought his countrymen.’
Like many radicals at the turn of the century Arthur Griffith blamed Jews for the war in South Africa. He also asserted:

‘no thoughtful Irishman or Irishwoman can view without apprehension the continuous influx of Jews into Ireland … what is known as Anti-Semitism on the Continent had its origin … in a very natural detestation of business knavery, and a very natural desire to defend the weak against the unscrupulous’.
Speaking at a commemoration for Roger Casement in Co Kerry during August 1917, Easter week veteran and IRB president Thomas Ashe described how Casement had worked so that

'‘Ireland might be perserved from the tyranny of the Jews and moneylenders of London who are at present running the World War.’'

When Ashe died while on hunger strike shortly afterwards, his speech was widely distributed in pamphlet form.

After 1919 republican diplomats sometimes expressed hostility towards Jews or sensed hostility from Jews to the Irish cause. Reporting on Spain during September 1921 Robert Brennan described how the ‘Liberal and Jewish papers seem to be pro-British.’

Working
for the Dáil in Germany, Nancy de Paor claimed that ‘the bulk of the middle-class Berlin papers at the time was in the hands of Jews who would not lift a finger for us … the Jews in Germany always supported Britain’.
‘everywhere Jews and Masons were united against us in foreign press on the side of England’.

Sinn Féin TD George Gavan Duffy to secretary of state at the Vatican
Michael Keogh, a member of Roger Casement’s Brigade, was in Munich during 1918. He described Kurt Eisner, the Jewish head of the Bavarian revolutionary government as being ‘of the Shylock breed’ and claimed that Eisner had refused to aid veterans of the Casement Brigade because they had been ‘dupes’ of the Kaiser. (Keogh also claimed to have served with the Freikorps and to have saved the life of one Adolf Hitler during a riot).

Michael Keogh served on both sides of World War I. He landed in a German POW camp where Keogh had befriended Roger Casement in the US years earlier, and Casement now sought him out to head an Irish Brigade of prisoners willing to switch sides (as Casement was to be involved in the 1916 with the hope of German landing in Ireland).

Privately the Germans treated Casement’s Brigade as an Irish joke, but they were happy to play him along for the nuisance value he could deliver back in Ireland.

But Casement’s career as a gun runner was short-lived and after his execution in 1916 the Irish Brigade was effectively shelved by the Germans.

Keogh joined the German Army proper, where he rose to the rank of Field Lieutenant. In his regiment he met a fiery Lance Corporal called Adolf Hitler.

After the war, Germany descended into chaos as rival factions vied to fill the void left by the collapse of the old order. Keogh joined the proto-fascist Freikorps, who were sworn to smash Communism.

When Marxists attempted to set up a Bavarian Soviet Republic in Munich, the Friekorps wiped them out with shocking brutality. Peace had no sooner been restored than it was shattered by the noisiest man in Germany.

Keogh was duty officer at a Munich barracks when he was called to quell a riot that had erupted in a gym. What he saw was not exactly a fair fight.

A crowd of some 200 soldiers was kicking the living daylights out of just two. Some of the attackers were brandishing bayonets. The two victims were about to die.

Keogh ordered his men to fire a salvo over the heads of the mob. It did the trick. He dragged the two victims out of the gym “cut, bleeding and in need of the doctor”.

It was a measure of Hitler’s madness that he had entered the hall to provoke a reaction from 200 troops, by hectoring them with views that were already openly hateful.

As Keogh dragged him off to the guardroom for his own safety, the future fuhrer continued to spew angry comments.

Once there, Keogh recalled: “The fellow with the moustache gave his name as Adolf Hitler. It was the Lance Corporal of Ligny. I would not have recognised him. He was thin and emaciated from his wounds.”

Keogh arrived back in Ireland in late 1919 as the War of Independence was coming to a boil. He linked with Michael Collins, trafficking guns from Germany.
