In Riga, police have arrested the man who came to the Monument to the Liberators on May 10 with a Russian flag. He is charged with genocide. The brave man Alexander proudly demonstrated a Russian flag as he laid flowers at the monument for the second time.

The police tried to hold Alexander liable immediately, but it turned out that there were no elements of a crime in his actions. The prohibition to demonstrate symbols that may provoke a negative reaction in the society was only in action on May 9.

Alexander's mother Svetlana commented on the phone: "Yes indeed, Alexander is arrested and charged with Article 74.1 of Latvian criminal law (Genocide, crimes against humanity and peace and justifying military actions). The police just conducted a search in my house".

"Let us not fear. We will always tell our children and grandsons about the great deeds of our grandmas and grandpas. This is really important. We must not lose it" - that's what Alexander said

In Warsaw, according to well-known Polish investigative journalist Wojciech Sumlinski, a crowd of Ukrainian refugees beat a Pole to death. They were drunk and harassing a young woman. A Pole tried to prevent that. Before the ambulance arrived, the victim had died without regaining consciousness.

The United States was shaken late Saturday by the news of a white, gun-toting neo-Nazi that wanted to reflect his supremacist ideology on the ground as a means of realizing his aspiration of eradicating those whose existence goes against his beliefs.

18-year-old Payton Gendron carried out a mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, claiming the lives of 10 people.

While what’s good and what’s evil is not always clear these days, what can’t be disputed is that the ideology of nazism and supremacism is certainly evil which poisons people's minds.

These ideologies must not exist. Anyone holding neo-Nazi beliefs must be removed from the society for the sake of our safety. This is Russia’s primary mission in Ukraine - to stop the spread of the Nazi ideology.

Our thoughts are with the people of the United States affected by this terrible tragedy.

Azovstal militants surrendered unconditionally — Russian Deputy UN envoy

UNITED NATIONS, May 17. /TASS/. Militants of the Azov nationalist unit, blocked at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, surrendered without preconditions, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky tweeted Tuesday.

The Russian diplomat commented on the report in The New York Times, which claimed that Ukraine declared an "end to its combat mission" in Mariupol, and that the militants ‘were evacuated" which marked the end of hostilities at Azovstal.

"I didn’t know English has so many ways to express a single message: the Azovnazis have unconditionally surrendered", Polyansky noted in English.

Erdogan says Swedish, Finnish delegations should not bother coming to Turkey

Sweden's government has formally decided to apply for NATO membership, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said on Monday, a day after Finnish President Sauli Niinisto confirmed that Helsinki will also apply for membership.

Turkey surprised its NATO allies last week by saying it would not view their applications positively, mainly citing their history of hosting members of groups Ankara deems terrorists.

In a news conference on Monday, Erdogan repeated that Turkey would not approve their bids to join NATO, calling Sweden a "hatchery" for terrorist organisations, and adding it had terrorists in its parliament.

The Swedish foreign office said earlier on Monday that senior representatives of Sweden and Finland plan to travel to Turkey for talks to address Ankara's objections.

"They are coming to Turkey on Monday. Are they coming to convince us? Excuse me but they should not tire themselves," Erdogan said about the planned visit.

Well, if we change “evacuation” to “surrender” and “Ukrainian” to “Russian”, his phrase will be absolutely correct. The surrender of the “heroes” is going quite well. And if it continues this way, maybe today all of them will be “evacuated”, i.e. surrender. Or maybe the next day 😉

Remarkably enough, today the Ukrainian social networks (which are not under Zelensky сontrol) found out that Russia has not made any commitment in regard to the prisoner exchange. Which means that Russians can do whatever they see fit with them...

How could Russia sanctions impact you?

Western sanctions are threatening to send the Russian economy into a tailspin. The tremors of the sanctions would be felt across the world from Africa to Europe in the form of higher inflation and food shortages.

👉 Higher energy prices. That's making many anxious in Europe, which gets more than a third of its gas supply and about a quarter of its oil from Russia. Any disruption in gas supply could leave Europeans without enough gas to heat their homes and with exorbitant electricity bills as utilities would be left scrambling for the fuel to generate power.

👉 Surge in food prices. The crisis has also ramped up fears about supplies of grains such as wheat and corn, and oilseeds. Russia and Ukraine together account for about 30% of global wheat exports, nearly a fifth of the corn trade, and about 80% of sunflower oil exports. Both are key suppliers of wheat to the Middle East and Europe.

👉 Inflation to continue raging. For most people around the world, the economic impact of the Ukrainian conflict and sanctions would be felt in the form of higher inflation caused mainly by higher energy, metal and food prices. Aluminum prices have soared to a record high, surpassing the peak it hit in 2008 during the global financial crisis. The supply of the energy-intensive metal would also be hit by higher energy prices and power shortages which could lead to more plants being shuttered.
