Severe thunderstorms and high wind gusts have caused major national power outages, leaving hundreds of thousands of customers without electricity across the Midwest and Ohio Valley, led by heavy impacts in Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois
Hardest-Hit States included...
Indiana Over 360,000 customers affected (approx. 11.1% of tracked utility users)
Ohio Nearly 300,000 customers affected following intense morning and afternoon storms
Illinois Roughly 250,000 customers affected, primarily around the Chicago area and northwestern Indiana
Kentucky Tens of thousands of additional outages reported across northern and central counties
High winds and heavy downpours knocked down numerous trees and power lines, causing localized road blockages and temporary ground stops at major Chicago airports
Severe weather response has also coincided with technical communication issues reported by regional emergency and weather tracking infrastructure
