Geosmin (meaning earth smell in Greek) is produced by Streptomyces, a Gram-positive type of Actinobacteria. The chemical is released by the bacteria when they die.
Petrichor
The word is constructed from Greek petra (πέτρα), "rock", or petros (πέτρος), "stone", and īchōr (ἰχώρ), the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.
Petrichor is a combination of fragrant chemical compounds. Some are from oils made by plants. The main contributor to petrichor are actinobacteria.
