I have to take breaks while taking this course in functional immunology from a hard-core believer in Germ Theory who speaks the warrior language. Yesterday, Dr Yanuck said, "If there is a pathogen, KILL IT."

I can't square the idea of "killing pathogens" that are not alive, or are already part of the trillions of microbiota in all of us, which is a state of health.

The other hiccup, jolt to my mind, is the idea that an 'infection' triggers the fibroblasts to call for neutrofils to enter tissue and begin the inflammation process with TNF and IL1b. The kick off ('infection, pathogen PAMP) is like the first big gift, the big bang, the proclamation that a bacteria or a 'virus' is a pathogen. How does the body know that this 'infection' warrants 'an attack'? Heavy metals, pesticides (DAMPS) and other elements foreign to the human, ok. But microbiota like E coli, candida, Clostridium existing peacefully, but may be in excess? If there is an imbalance, it makes sense to right the ship with commensal biota, not go on the killing warpath causing worse-yet collateral damage.
