🔴 Greek Ministry of Immigration calls for increased policing in immigrant camps
>https://archive.is/l9tM7

🔸 The Ministry wrote a letter calling for the increase of Policing in immigration camps due to juvenile delinquency surge among immigrants

‼️ Sadly most of the letter's proposal ask for half measures, most of them being 'more education', 'more professional supervision of minors' and many other "solutions" that have nothing to do with preventing or punishing wrongdoing

-/GBG/-
🟢 The current Greek Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Daniel Esdras, is the former head of the UN's IOM (International Organization of Migration) and ever since he was appointed as a minister, the reports and actions of the immigration ministry have become a lot more permissive and contribute more to increase immigration rather than to prevent it

🔴 This week Greek farmers have started to mobilize and block roads across the country, the government agreed to negotiate

🔸 After Greek farmers blocked roads in Thessaloniki (second largest city in the country) and many other farmer groups blocked roads in smaller municipalities, the government has agreed to dialogue as long as there are no more roadblocks

‼️ Most blockades were very short, lasting at best a couple of hours

🔸 The first Blockade was in Larissa on Tuesday. The Thessaloniki - Neo Moudania road was also blocked. Farmers used tractors to breach a police barrier in Egnatia Road to block it

‼️ The gov of Larissa denied even discussing the demands, farmers then proceeded to burn straw bales, pallets and tires

⚠️‼️ The farmers are making their way to Athens

What are Greek Farmers demanding
>https://archive.is/yruO0

🔺 Reduction of production costs with measures such as:

👉 Establishment of rural tax-free oil

👉 Ceiling of 7 cents/Kwh in the agro-livestock stream

👉 Subsidy of means, supplies and animal feed and abolition of VAT

👉 The New CAP should not be implemented and renegotiated

👉 Replenishment of lost income in crops that have a production loss that is not covered by ELGA as well as plant and animal products that were sold below production costs. Compensation from ELGA for all damages and diseases at 100% of the actual damage and not the insured value

👉 Measures to be taken and controls to be carried out by the Government to stop the "Hellenization" of plant, animal & beekeeping products

👉 Prices that cover production costs so that we have income for our livelihood and cultivation needs

👉 Infrastructure projects for the anti-flood shielding of the Country.

🔴 After a fight at an immigrant camp in Serres, immigrants threw rocks at the ambulance
>https://archive.is/wrOKL

🔸 Recently riots and fights have become very common in immigrant camps in Greece, this week started with yet another fight, two immigrants were injured

‼️ As soon as the ambulance arrived, it was attacked with rocks, damaging the vehicle and causing injury to the driver who was later also examined

/GBG/
🟢 It's impressive how society tolerates the existence of these camps in Greece, from destruction of olive groves, destruction of virgin forests to build more camps, crime increase and endless violence both inside and outside the camps. All of it paid by honest citizens, allowing their taxpayer money to be wasted with people who hate Greece, Greeks and contribute nothing to this great country

🔴 Turkey reschedules conversion of Chora Church into a mosque
>https://archive.is/hZst1

🔸 The official conversion of Chora was scheduled for the 23rd of February, when the first muslim prayer would be conducted, but the Turkish state recently denied it

🔸 The new announcement says the 'restoration' is in its final stages and that the Church will be dedicated for Islamic worship by May of 2024

‼️ The church of Agios Sotiros in Chora, the catholicon of what was once a monastic complex, dates from the 6th AD. The most elaborate mosaics and frescoes were created from 1305 to 1320

‼️ It is the monument with the most elaborate Byzantine mosaics in Constantinople, along with Hagia Sofia and the Monastery of Pammakaristos

🇹🇷 It was converted into a mosque in 1511 and later in 1945 into a museum, with Erdogan announcing in 2019 that it would become a mosque

🔴 Gavdos, the Greek Lampedusa?

🔸 Gerd Heller from Deutsche Welle, points out that recent numbers show that the Greek island of Gavdos, south of Crete, has become popular among immigrant smugglers. The island is under the administration of Chania, a region of the island of Crete.

🔸 The number of illegal immigrants aiming for Crete has increased in the first weeks of 2024, out of those illegal immigrants, most of them arrived in Gavdos and were then transferred to Crete.

‼️ 612 illegal immigrants arrived in Gavdos within the first 7 weeks of the year

‼️
The island has a total native population of 120 residents

🔸 Crete/Gavdos is not only targeted by north african smugglers but it is also a place where smugglers from Turkey choose to go in case their journey from the Turkish coast towards Italy does not go as planned or simply as a way to save resources while delivering the immigrants to Europe

🔸 The gang bought cheap inflatable boats from China and imported them to Germany in a complex operation, they transported the boats by car to Belgium where they would transport immigrants

🔴 2023 broke a 7 year record of Asylum Applications
>https://archive.is/dOkbk

🔸 According with the EUAA (European Union Agency for Asylum), 2023 broke a 7 year record with over 1.14 million, the most Asylum Applications since 2016 which was considered to be the height of the immigration crisis with 1.3 million between 2015 and 2016

🔸 Most applicants declared to be Afghans and Syrians. It was a 18% increase from 2022

‼️ Countries with the most applications:
🇩🇪 Germany received the most applications - 334,000
🇫🇷 France - 167,000
🇪🇸 Spain - 162,000
🇮🇹 Italy - 136,000

‼️ Countries with the most applications proportionally
🇨🇾 Cyprus
🇦🇹 Austria
🇬🇷 Greece

‼️ Cyprus received the most applications proportionally, 12000, representing 1 for every 78 inhabitants, Germany in comparison, received 1 for every 252 inhabitants. The EU average is 1 for every 400

🔴 2023 immigration by countries of origin

🔸 Across Europe, Syrians* made 181 000 Asylum applications, Afghans** followed with 114 000 applications (11% less than in 2022) and Turks have filed 101 000 applications (81% more than 2022, mostly in Germany)

‼️ The approval rate in 2023 was the highest since 2016, with around 46% of applications being accepted (applicants can appeal and resubmit again while still in Europe, a process that generally takes over two years)

⚠️‼️* 80% of applications from so called Syrians are approved, which is why many immigrants claim to be Syrian in order to receive asylum, although they have a few more obstacles to receive citizenship and permanent residency, interviews from as back as 2016 showed Pakistanis and even sub-saharan africans claiming to be Syrians

⚠️‼️ ** 61% of applications from so called Afghans are approved and they receive refugee status due to supposed persecution by the Taliban

🔴 Almost 5.000 applications for new residency permit in Greece
>https://archive.is/11LGt

🔸 In 2023, Greece approved the law 5078/2023, which in its article 193 allows that illegal immigrants that had been living in Greece for at least three years prior to the creation of the law can get a Residence Permit as long as they have a Job Offer and clean criminal history

🔸 According with the reports, until last week over 800 of the 4790 applications had been approved and the rest were still under evaluation

‼️ The law got into effect in February 2024, therefore in a little over a month there were already 5000 applications

👉 The law itself and even Art. 193 is too extensive to be fully explained in this post since this article alone has 13 paragraphs, the full text of the law can be read here (in Greek)

/GBG/

🟢 The move looks more like an attempt to get voters and artificially reduce the number of illegal immigrants in the country for the statistics than anything else

Over 400 illegal immigrants arrived to Cyprus on Monday

🔸 The 458 illegal immigrants arrived to Cyprus in 6 boats that departed from Lebanon

‼️ 244 are adult men, 44 women and 170 are "minors" (the distribution between the six boats is oddly balanced)

‼️ All of the immigrants on these boats claim to be from Syria, a common way to guarantee Asylum

🔴 New 7.4 Billion EU immigration deal and Greek Ministry of Immigration still lying about reduced immigration
>https://archive.is/VP0tH

‼️ The EU has signed a € 7.4 Billion Euros immigration deal with Egypt. € 5 Billions in Soft Loans, € 1.8 Billion as investments for the private sector, € 600 Million in grants and € 200 Million for immigration management

🔸 The deal is significant since many smugglers and the immigrants themselves either go through Egypt to reach Libya and other North African countries to depart towards Europe or go to Europe directly from Egypt. Egypt also is a far more honorable ally than Turkey

🔸 Meanwhile the Greek Minister of Migration and Asylum, Dimitris Keiridis claims illegal immigration dropped 70% in the upper Aegean and 90% in Evros claiming Egypt has played a major role, insane claims given how both 2023 and 2024 have registered the highest number of immigrants since 2016

🔴 Turkey to suspend implementation of Treaty on Conventional Forces in Europe
>https://archive.is/ShaA4

🔸 Turkey announced that it will suspend the implementation of the CFE Treaty. It means that Turkey will abolish the ceilings of forces and armaments imposed by the treaties as well as the mutual checks to ensure that countries were complying with the ceilings and the guidelines for destruction and withdraw of war materials

‼️ This comes a while after Russia withdrew from the treaty which caused NATO to declare its 'freezing' as the relevance of the treaty without Russia is reduced significantly

‼️ It is still not known if Greece will follow suit and also suspend or withdraw from the treaty since there has been an increasing arms race between Greece and Turkey for the past few years

🔸 The treaty itself only aims at avoiding accumulation of military forces and armaments as well as to create checks and balances between Western countries and those from the Warsaw Pact
