These statements and possibly future actions might set important precedents on how to deal with illegal immigrants and 'asylees', something that has been called for a long time using mechanisms that are already recognized in most countries once naturalized citizens may lose their citizenship and residency permits are even easier to revoke
Nevertheless, actions have more value than words, Sweden is still to take strong action against immigrant gangs or even immigration as a whole
Hopefully with the implementation of such ideas, this would validate and attract the attention of other European countries to the point where this would finally become common practice

๐ด ๐ New legislation will grant legal status to illegal immigrants after 3 years of staying in Greece
A new type of residence permit for migrants is created by Article 4 of the amendment submitted today to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's insurance bill. The amendment was submitted by the Ministry of Migration and Asylum and concerns third-country migrants living in Greece.
According to information from parapolitika.gr, this amendment provides that third-country migrants who have been residing in Greece without a permit until November 30, 2023, for three years, now have the right to be granted a legal residence permit by the Secretariat of the Decentralized Administration.
It is noted that until now illegal migrants, i.e. those who had not applied for asylum or had been rejected, could under very strict conditions apply for a residence permit, and in particular only if they had completed 7 years of continuous presence in the country.
Now, article 4 simplifies the requirements and those who have entered illegally until 30.11.23 and have stayed 3 instead of 7 years in the country, can acquire a special residence permit for themselves and their families. So the requirements are reduced by 4 years.
This development seems to be linked to the fact that there is pressure for labour, especially for agricultural workers, with the government coming to intervene catalytically in this matter. It is estimated that around 28,000 workers are affected by this measure.

Greek Church Condemns Bill to Legalise Same-Sex Marriage
The Church of Greeceโs top authority declared its opposition to a bill promised by the countryโs conservative government that will legalise same-sex marriage and adoption by same-sex couples.

๐ด Greek Ministry of Immigration calls for increased policing in immigrant camps

๐ธ The Ministry wrote a letter calling for the increase of Policing in immigration camps due to juvenile delinquency surge among immigrants
โผ๏ธ Sadly most of the letter's proposal ask for half measures, most of them being 'more education', 'more professional supervision of minors' and many other "solutions" that have nothing to do with preventing or punishing wrongdoing
๐ข The current Greek Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Daniel Esdras, is the former head of the UN's IOM (International Organization of Migration) and ever since he was appointed as a minister, the reports and actions of the immigration ministry have become a lot more permissive and contribute more to increase immigration rather than to prevent it

๐ธ After Greek farmers blocked roads in Thessaloniki (second largest city in the country) and many other farmer groups blocked roads in smaller municipalities, the government has agreed to dialogue as long as there are no more roadblocks
โผ๏ธ Most blockades were very short, lasting at best a couple of hours
๐ธ The first Blockade was in Larissa on Tuesday. The Thessaloniki - Neo Moudania road was also blocked. Farmers used tractors to breach a police barrier in Egnatia Road to block it
โผ๏ธ The gov of Larissa denied even discussing the demands, farmers then proceeded to burn straw bales, pallets and tires
