🇧🇷|🔥 Major wildfire were reported in several parts of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, on Thursday and Friday, August 22nd and 23rd. These days were marked by intense heat, strong winds, and low humidity.

‼️According to the state government, at least 30 municipalities declared a heightened fire alert. To coordinate fire response measures, an Emergency Fire Response Management unit was established.

The São Paulo Civil Defense reported that one of the largest fires broke out on a sugarcane plantation in the municipality of Sertãozinho, in the Ribeirão Preto region. The fire started on Thursday but spread significantly on Friday.

According to the state government, two people died on Friday while fighting the fire.

Authorities warn that the fires are releasing thick and toxic smoke, which is harmful to the environment and human health, causing respiratory and cardiovascular problems.

The smoke spread to large inland areas and even reached the state capital. Photos and videos show that the city’s sky was completely covered in smoke.
