πΈπ© Tragedy in Sudan: Dam Collapse Leads to Dozens of Deaths
βΌοΈ A catastrophe has struck eastern Sudan with the collapse of the Jor Arbaat Dam, which was built in 2003. The damβs reservoir was the main source of fresh water for the nearby city of Port Sudan on the Red Sea. According to the online news site "Al Taghier," the flooding destroyed homes and forced residents to seek refuge on higher ground. The dam had not been maintained for the past three years, which is believed to be the cause of the tragedy.β
At least 60 people have died as a result of the collapse, and several dozen are still missing. Rescue teams continue their search, hoping to find survivors among the debris. According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the disaster occurred during the rainy season, which lasted several days and has already claimed the lives of at least 39 people this summer. 26.08.2024
