Locks keep out honest thieves. Nobody can be kept out indefinitely.
One place had excellent wrought iron bars over the windows and doors. The thief hooked up a D-7 Caterpillar (bulldozer) with a chain and literally ripped one wall of the log cabin off.
Good security slows them down and sends the opportunistic thief to the neighbor's house instead.
Even good neighbors cannot protect against an immoral wandering vagabond up to no good.

Almost every step in the development of warfare after a certain cutoff point has made it gayer. The transition from swords and other such instruments to guns made it gayer. The development of aerial bombardment made it gayer. Now, the development of drones makes it still gayer. All of it is gayification, it all makes combat less direct, less masculine, more feminized.
And at every step of the way, you either go along with it or you lose. You cannot fight guns with swords.
