I agree with Eric. 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻. But in the absence of police response recognizing that this is unconventional warfare and treating it as such is appropriate and it seems Trump is taking that path. Our nation is not obligated to stand down and let rioters burn and loot American Cities. But lets not send in troops with crazy rules that are untenable— like having no ammo.

There are comments that Marines can take care of this without bullets. I was stationed with USMC for most of my time as a Navy doc. I was married to a Marine pilot for 30 years. He was command level at 29 Palms for Combined Arms Exercise. They don’t practice warfare without live ammunition. Training is great. But this is assymmetric warfare. We have seen rioters armed with sticks, rocks, bricks, guns and incendiary devices. They are purposely setting up a disaster IMO. This is a war where the invading army is trained, paid, and equipped by a foreign clandestine source, but the attacking troops show up as everyday protesters. So it appears Trump is responding to this organized invasion, not as city riots, but as a war. Finally.

I have all the faith in the world in the competence of the USMC. But don’t send them in to a potentially lethal fight without real guns. If you think they are competent, then trust them to understand the rules of engagement— with weapons. If it escalates— as conflicts ultimately do—all the body armour in the world doesn’t level the playing field. Just saying…

One last point. These rioters are being paid. What happened to the rioters in San Francisco when they stopped being paid? They left and went to their next job. But… how much is a $20/ hour ( or whatever) worth when suddenly you face active duty trained military? Probably not much.
