The ancients believed that sacrifice was the only way to appease God. I've long held that they were partially right, and partially wrong.

Self-sacrifice, not animals or wheat or external things, shows that you're willing to do the work and mold yourself into a better representation of what He made us to be.

Does slaying a goat or ox show that you're willing to take back ground after man's fall? No.

Does a willingness for the toil and pain to make yourself stronger, better, and with a cleaner soul?

I believe so.

Why do you think the "redemption arc" speaks to us so loudly?

I think it speaks to something far deeper than most realize.
