Telegram CEO Pavel Durov on Social Media Censorship
Every few decades there is a drastic change in how we view important societal and scientific problems. What used to be a ridiculous idea yesterday can become the predominant opinion today, only to turn into an obsolete notion tomorrow.
In the history of human beliefs, change is the only constant. Most people living in 1921 shared views that today are considered quaint at best, and dangerous at worst. The chances that our present-day convictions will remain relevant by 2121 are slim.
In fact, we won't even have to wait 100 years, as the speed of change is accelerating. A good example is how quickly humanity changed its mind over the origins of Covid.
Just a year ago, the idea that the virus originated from a Wuhan Lab was dismissed as a conspiracy theory. Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms blocked posts promoting the lab leak theory. Today, however, this theory is on its way to becoming the mainstream scientific view of how the virus originated.
Such instances make combating fake news and misinformation particularly challenging. They can also fundamentally undermine people's trust in the neutrality of social media platforms, and jeopardize future efforts to fight misinformation.
Telegram never blocked posts discussing the lab leak theory, because we didn't think it's our role to decide for our users what they should believe. At the same time, we felt that our users had the right to be informed about Covid by official sources that reflected scientific consensus. That's why we worked with 19 governments to help them reach out to every Telegram user in their countries with up-to-date information on the pandemic.
Today we call upon more governments to join the Telegram anti-Covid initiative to make sure more people around the world get access critical knowledge that can save lives.
In my 20 years of managing discussion platforms, I noticed that conspiracy theories only strengthen each time their content is removed by moderators. Instead of putting an end to wrong ideas, censorship often makes it harder to fight them. That’s why spreading the truth will always be a more efficient strategy than engaging in censorship.

Biden now saying the unvaccinated are killing the vaccinated. Keep your head on a swivel. Hes gonna cause attacks against the unvaccinated.
Biden talking about the effectiveness of vaccines....while also trying to say they're not doing enough to keep those of us that are vaccinated from spreading it to unvaccinated people and....killing them? https://t.co/4cxysnQLWt

If you live in Dan Laughlin’s district in PA and you do not oppose him in his next primary, you are failing your fellow citizens.
This is a weasel of a Republican who knows the truth that it is not mathematically possible for Biden to win PA with Trump’s vote total of nearly 3.4mm.
He is from a county that voted for Trump, red for first time in 3 decades, and moved another 3% toward the GOP in registration, only to be rejuvenated by the Biden candidacy despite a record Trump vote gain.
He knows. So do Benninghoff, Corman, and Grove. They just think we are dumb.

I just had a call with a very wise and valued friend and mentor, a retired Air Force General and hero.
He reminded me again that the RINOs are a much more substantial threat to righting wrongs and thwarting tyranny.
Today’s Democrats are honest, in a way. They hate freedom. They will extinguish it for you and give it to the rest of the world and its people at your expense.
RINOs talk a great game at election time and get just enough people on board so “they” can’t win, and they lose slower. They get nothing done.
This reminds me of how military installations are fenced, razor wired, spot lighted, and stood guard over to ensure the threats from outside don’t get in. That’s us trying to watch out for democrats.
But once upon a time, when I was a Lieutenant at Fort Hood, my boss asked me to run down to the airfield to take care of a task, but called me 2 minutes later and told me to get inside. That day was November 5, 2009, and our base was shot up, with serious loss of life and injury, by Nidal Hasan.
The enemy inside the wire. The enemy is inside your wire - and they often carry a letter (R) behind them.
We no longer will ask “who should we primary?” We will start off with “everyone,” and only in round 2 will we ask “who do we keep?” It’s easy. If they don’t support audits in places that need them - primaried.
Forget the outer perimeter. Inside the wire.

Shortly after Jeffrey Epstein was arrested, the media began to hound Trump admin official Alex Acosta to ask why he gave Epstein his infamous sweetheart deal in West Palm Beach.
Acosta was a Trump official, so of course the media would try to jam him up.
But his answer that, “the intelligence community told me that I wasn’t allowed to touch him or ask questions” (sic) should have invited an onslaught of investigations from the media.
Instead, it died away from the headlines.
Why?
Answer that $10 billion question and you will discover a seedy underbelly of the USA and global governments that you’ll wish you’d never discovered.

Disposable COVID-19 masks are expected to take more than 450 years to decompose. They break up into microplastics, endangering the very precious marine wildlife around the globe.

Please reference my post from last evening about the “friends” we have inside the wire.
In the comments, someone asked what can be done to root out the true positions of RINOs (Any parties really) without much of a track record to them.
I met a former SEAL team member who has developed a very intriguing platform that you all should go take a look at, which can be ready to launch by midterms if we can get it funded.
Please go look at this site, and give me some feedback in the comments. If led to donate, donate. I will make the case for that after I’ve amassed feedback and discussed with the founder.
Like I said - we need to deal with the phony Conservative faction accurately. This is a great start.

I was in DC on 1/6. I took my son to personally experience history and to see how media misrepresents MAGA rallies. We went to lunch before Trumps speech, walking towards the Capital about 11:30 am. 2 blocks from Capital, there were large black coach busses parked and groups people surrounding them. I pointed and told my son " those are BLM/ Antifa- keep an eye on them they are here to start something".
We got back to the ellipse to catch Trumps speech, then followed the very peaceful procession towards the capital when friends of mine not in DC, but watching on tv, began franticly messaging me about Capital police using tear gas on Trump supporters. They said police were attacking "peaceful protesters". I knew then something very strange was happening. Once on Capitol grounds, we all were having strange cell phone issues- instant battery drains, no data reception, etc. I knew instantly it was a set up and so did my son. When we got back to our room for Bowzer's curfew, we turned on Fox news and could not believe the crap they were telling people. Everything was 100% opposite of what we experienced. My son saw first hand the how media lies and slanders to create a fake narrative. The most frustrating part is how they've been able to paint this picture without a demand for PROOF. No video tape, no discussion of ANY supposed victims, except the continued proven false information about officer Sitnyk's (sp?) death the following day from a stroke, not a fire extinguisher attack.
Why are people not asking for proof? So infuriating.
