๐ฉ๐ฟ ๐ญ ๐ช๐บ Algeria confirmed that work on the 4,100 km Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline will resume soon.
The project would move 30 bcm per year from Nigeria โ Niger โ Algeria โ Mediterranean โ Europe.
Why this matters:
โข 30 bcm = ~6โ7% of pre-war EU gas demand
โข Direct sub-Saharan route into Europe
โข Strategic diversification away from Russian flows
If completed, this is not just infrastructure.
Itโs a geopolitical corridor.
Europe wants supply security.
Algeria wants transit leverage.
Nigeria wants monetisation of stranded gas.
Execution risk remains high, security in the Sahel is fragile, and financing is complex.
But structurally, Europe is still short molecules.
And Africa is sitting on them.

"The European Union is weighing plans to set up two military bases inside Ukraine to train fresh troops - a move Moscow has already warned could make them targets of military strikes.
"We have been discussing the training of the Ukrainian soldiers, also on the soil of Ukraine," EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Wednesday. "We have identified two training centers that could be used for that purpose."
The Kremlin made clear just a month ago: "The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns that the deployment of military units, military facilities, warehouses, and other infrastructure of Western countries on Ukrainian territory will be classified as foreign intervention, posing a direct threat to the security of not only Russia but also other European countries," according to the warning of spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
Western governments have already trained tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops over the course of the four-year grinding war with Russia - but this has been concentrated in countries like Britain, Denmark, and Poland."

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, says he plans to visit Venezuela soon, although he has not yet specified exactly when that trip will take place, stating that he still needs to determine the most appropriate timing for the visit.
"President Donald Trump told reporters outside the White House on Friday afternoon that he plans to visit Venezuela, but offered no details or timeline. If it happens, it would be a historic trip, coming as Venezuelan oil flows accelerate under tighter U.S. oversight.
"I'm going to make a visit to Venezuela... We haven't decided [when]," Trump told reporters, adding that he also had a "good meeting" with Venezuela's neighbor, Colombia.
(...)
"We have a very good relationship with the president of Venezuela," Trump said, noting that the U.S. is "working together very closely" with Rodriguez on access to oil."

Brazilโs 1 Million Bitcoin Strategic Reserve Bill Introduced, Stablecoin Taxation Also in the Works
"Brazilian lawmakers have reintroduced a bill to create a national Strategic Sovereign Bitcoin Reserve, known as RESBit, proposing the gradual acquisition of one million bitcoins over five years.
The bill, presented by Federal Deputy Luiz Gastรฃo (PSD/CE), outlines a comprehensive framework to integrate Bitcoin into the countryโs financial strategy and diversify national reserves.
The proposed legislation establishes several guidelines for RESBit.
First, the plan calls for a gradual accumulation of at least 1,000,000 BTC over five years.
It prohibits the sale of bitcoins seized by Brazilian judicial authorities, ensuring that these assets remain within public control."

"The West has been calling Russia's ever-tightening internet regulations on its citizenry a "digital Iron Curtain". Already over a period of months and years of the Ukraine war, various popular US-based social media apps have been throttled and even banned, but this week things have escalated with YouTube and WhatsApp being blocked in Russia:
Russia's internet regulator Roskomnadzor has removed"youtube.com" from its DNS (Domain Name System) servers. If a user tries to access the site directly without a VPN (Virtual Private Network), their router can no longer assign the address to its IP address.
This means that You Tube is no longer accessible in Russia. The WhatsApp domain has also disappeared from Roskomnadzor's servers. The Russian government has also launched a campaign against the messenger app Telegram, leading analysts to say Roskomnadzor is cracking down on platforms beyond its control.
But perhaps even more impactful - in terms of Russians quickly getting news, information, and public statements (even from their own government channels) - is the new move to throttle and block Telegram."

BERLIN โ Frustrated by the inertia of European Union nations in working to address the continentโs challenges, Germany and France are pushing for a โtwo-speedโ system that will allow Europeโs largest economies to make changes, unencumbered by the need for broader consensus.
In a letter to the finance ministers of the E.U.โs five other biggest economies, German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil wrote that โcontinuing as before is not an optionโ if Europe is to become more resilient in the face of new geopolitical challenges.
In the letter, obtained by The Washington Post, Klingbeil wrote that he and French Finance Minister Roland Lescure were convening the six-member group for a Wednesday afternoon videoconference to โset an ambitious and concrete agenda to strengthen the sovereignty, resilience and competitiveness of Europe.โ
In addition to France and Germany, the ministers of Italy, Spain, Poland and the Netherlands were invited to participate in the meeting, which Klingbeil wrote would serve as a โkickoff meetingโ ahead of an in-person gathering on the sidelines of next monthโs full meeting of the Eurogroup, where countries that use the euro currency set policy."

"They like to pretend it came out of nowhere.
They like the bedtime story: Europe was peacefully humming along in its post-history spa โ open borders, cheap energy, NATO as a charity, Russia as a gas station with a flagโฆ and then, one day, the barbarian kicked the door in for no reason at all.
That story is not just dishonest. Itโs operational. Itโs the propaganda you tell yourself so you can keep the addiction going without ever admitting how self-destructive it is.
Because the truth is uglier and far more incriminating: In Munich, on February 10, 2007, Vladimir Putin stood on the most flattering stage the Atlantic system owns โ the Security Conference where Western officials applaud themselves for maintaining โorderโ and he laid out, to their faces, the skeleton of the coming disaster. He didnโt whisper it in a back channel. He used the microphone to deliver some much needed medicine, however hard it would be for the Empire to swallow.
He even signaled he wasnโt going to play the usual polite theatre โ the kind where everyone agrees in public and stabs each other in classified annexes. He said the format allowed him to avoid โpleasant, yet empty diplomatic platitudes.โ
And then he did the unforgivable thing, (gasp!) he described the empire as an empire. He named the unipolar intoxication โ that postโCold War hallucination that history had ended, that power had found its final owner, that NATO could expand forever without consequences, that international law was optional for the enforcer class and compulsory for everyone else.
Putinโs core argument was brutally simple: a unipolar model is not only unacceptable, itโs impossible. Not โunfair.โ Not rude. Impossible.
(Because in a world with) โone center of authority, one center of force, one center of decision-makingโ is a world where security becomes privatized โ where the strong reserve the right to interpret rules (with exemptions for themselves), and the weak are told to accept it as morality. (And yes, he put it in exactly those terms โ one center, one force, one decision โ the architecture of domination.)"

Elon Musk's company is advancing in the country at a much faster pace than traditional providers; the North region leads satellite connectionsFebruary 16, 2026
Starlink, owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk, increased its number of customers in Brazil by 85% in 2025. The company became the 13th largest internet provider in Brazil. This increase was much higher than the sector's overall growth average of 3% for the year. The survey is from Poder360 with data from Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency).
The company is on an accelerated pace of growth. In December 2023, there were 133,000 access points in the country. In the same month of the following year, that number rose to 326,800. In 2025, it closed with 606,200 active accesses.
(...)
The states in the Northern region, which have infrastructure difficulties in receiving such services, are the ones with the most access to Musk's company's internet.

Because of Sacramentoโs self-inflicted refinery closures, refusal to expand in-state capacity, hostility to interstate pipelines, and rigid regulatory regime, fuel that could move efficiently within California is instead being routed to a foreign port, transferred to a foreign-flagged vessel, and then shipped all the way around Mexico to California.
More than 40% of imported gasoline in November came via the Bahamas.
We are:
๐ข Adding thousands of unnecessary shipping miles (and emissions)
๐ธ Layering transportation costs onto already record-high pump prices
๐ญ Driving domestic refining capacity out of the state
๐ Weakening energy reliability in the worldโs 5th largest economy
๐ Gregory Smith: Accurate but worth a mention that refineries don't just produce gasoline but also diesel (industrial and transport), kerosene (jet fuel), asphalt (roads), and other compounds lighter (e.g. propane) and heavier (e.g. bunker fuel for ships). Losing local refineries means that ALL of these refined products have to be shipped into CA. Which can certainly be done but at higher prices. CA is choosing to not just pay more for gasoline but also losing the foundations of an industrial economy. Which might be the goal.
๐ TheIntelFrog: Our entire defense apparatus is petroleum based, and that's not changing anytime soon. In case of war in the Pacific, we will need much more fuel on the west coast than we presently have the capacity for.
