The group emphasized they are not seeking for Alberta to become the 51st U.S. state, but rather a sovereign nation.

The claims appear in a Daily Beast report, following earlier coverage by outlets like the Financial Times and NBC News on similar meetings since April 2025.

U.S. officials have described the encounters as routine staff-level discussions with civil society groups, denying any commitments or support, and indicating no future high-level meetings are planned.

The revelations have sparked controversy in Canada, with some officials criticizing the engagements amid strained U.S.-Canada relations.
