United States Patent 6,630,507. Filed in 2003. Assigned to the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Title: “Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants.”

The patent states that cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant are useful in the treatment of a wide variety of oxidation-associated diseases, including ischemic, age-related, inflammatory, and autoimmune diseases. It specifically mentions protection against neurological damage, including stroke, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and HIV dementia.

The United States government owns this patent. It has owned it for over 20 years.

At the same time, the United States government classifies cannabis as a Schedule I controlled substance. The legal definition of Schedule I is: “a drug with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.”

No medical use. That is the law. While the same government holds a patent proving medical use. In writing. With a patent number you can look up right now.

For decades, millions of Americans have been arrested, imprisoned, and had their lives destroyed for possessing a plant that their own government patented as medicine. The prison-industrial complex generated billions from cannabis convictions. Pharmaceutical companies sold synthetic alternatives at 100 times the cost. And the natural plant that outperformed all of them was kept illegal.
