The formation consists of the Lithuanian army brigades "Iron Wolf", "Zemaitija" and the reserve "AukΕ‘taitija", supported by air defense units, engineering, reconnaissance and artillery units.

The new division headquarters will begin training units assigned to the formation in 2025.

By 2030, it is planned to form a full-fledged division.

The 1st Division's mission is to defend Lithuanian territory together with its allies, ensuring collective defense with NATO formations.

The Lithuanian Defense Ministry said the division would allow the country's armed forces to operate in an integrated manner, providing maneuver, fire support, logistics, reconnaissance, air defense, engineering and intelligence capabilities.

πŸŒβš‘βš”οΈπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ NATO Secretary General Rutte: Germany should spend more on defense

German Defence Minister Pistorius responded to Trump's request:
πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ cannot spend 5% of GDP on defense.

The federal defense minister stressed:

"This is almost every second euro that the German government spends, that is, 230 billion euros. We cannot afford it and we cannot spend this amount of money and we are currently in economic difficulties."

He added that NATO countries cannot accept this figure "unilaterally without discussion," but the need for more investment in defense is "undeniable."
