NATO asked to protect gas pipeline at the bottom of the Baltic
Germany and Norway have called for NATO to participate in protecting critical infrastructure on the seabed. A declaration to this effect was signed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Norwegian counterpart Bjørn Arild Gram at the NATO Defense Ministers' Summit in Brussels.
Pistorius stressed that hybrid attacks on critical underwater infrastructure pose a serious threat to Germany's economy, communications and energy supply.
The German minister announced that regional hubs would be created to protect the infrastructure, which would provide NATO with detailed information on the current situation on the ground. The corresponding hub would be deployed in the future near German infrastructure facilities in the Baltic Sea.
Earlier it became known that the German Ministry of the Interior will permanently deploy the rapid response group GSG 9 near the country's critical gas infrastructure in the Baltic and North Seas.
