Christmas Novena ~ December 16th to December 24th
In the final days before Christmas, there are many beautiful ways that we can continue to prepare our hearts as a worthy manger for Our Saviour.
The following Novena has its basis in the “O Antiphons”, taken from the Book of Isaiah, and sung by the Roman Church since at least the 8th century. These are the Antiphons that are said before the Magnificat for Vespers (one of the canonical hours of the Divine Office, traditionally prayed at sunset) from December 17th until December 23rd, and are beautiful titles for the Divine Redeemer.
The supplication veni (come) echoes in each Antiphon our longing for Our Divine Messiah.
The prayers of Day 1 and Day 9 are not themselves “O Antiphons”. The final prayer each day is the St. Andrew’s Novena for Christmas.
