SECOND SUNDAY of LENT

The Transfiguration of Our Lord gives us an idea of the beauty of a soul in the state of sanctifying grace. “This is the will of God, your sanctification.” It must be our firm determination to preserve the divine life of our soul, at any price.

Matt. 17, 1-9. At that time, Jesus took Peter, James and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves, and was transfigured before them. And His face shone as the sun, and His garments became white as snow. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking together with Him. Then Peter addressed Jesus, saying, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If Thou wilt, let us set up three tents here, one for Thee, one for Moses, and one for Elias.” As he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear Him.” And on hearing it the disciples fell on their faces and were exceedingly afraid. And Jesus came near and touched them, and said to them, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” But lifting up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus cautioned them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one, till the Son of Man has risen from the dead.” S. Praise be to Thee, O Christ.

EFFICACIOUS PRAYER to ST. JOSEPH

O Glorious St. Joseph! faithful follower of Jesus Christ, to thee do we raise our hearts and hands, to implore thy powerful intercession in obtaining from the benign Heart of Jesus all the helps and graces necessary for our spiritual and temporal welfare, particularly the grace of a happy death, and the special favour we now implore [mention it].

(Then say the following Versicle and Response seven times in honour of the seven joys and sorrows of St. Joseph.)

O Glorious St. Joseph ! through the love thou bearest to Jesus Christ, and for the glory of His Name.

Hear our prayers and obtain our petitions.

ACT of CONSECRATION to SAINT JOSEPH

O dearest Saint Joseph, I consecrate myself to thine honor and give myself to thee, that thou mayest always be my father, my protector and my guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for me a greater purity of heart and fervent love of the interior life. After Thine example may I do all my actions for the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And do Thou, O Blessed Saint Joseph, pray for me, that I may share in the peace and joy of thy holy death.

Amen.

Prayer to Be Freed from Evil Habits

GIVE me, I beseech thee, O Holy Spirit, Giver of all good gifts, that powerful grace which converts the stony hearts of mortals into burning furnaces of love. By Thy grace, free my captive soul from the thraldom of every evil habit and concupiscence, to restore to it the holy liberty of the children of God. Give me to taste how sweet it is to serve the Lord and crucify the flesh with its vices and concupiscences. Enlarge my heart that I may ever cheerfully run the way of Thy commandments until I reach the goal of my aspirations, the joys and bliss of Thy habitation in heaven. Amen.

LITANIES to OBTAIN HUMILITY

LORD, have pity on me.
O Jesus, meek and humble of Heart, hear me.
O Jesus, meek and humble of Heart, graciously hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed, deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, deliver me, Jesus.
— of being sought after, —
— of being praised, —
— of being honoured, —
— of being preferred, —
— of being consulted, —
— of being approved, —
— of being humoured, —
From the fear of being humbled, deliver me, Jesus.
— of being despised, —
— of being rebuffed, —
— of being calumniated, —
— of being forgotten, —
— of being mocked, —
— of being scoffed at,—
— of being insulted, —

O Mary, mother of the humble, pray for me.

Saint Joseph, protector of humble souls, pray for me.

Saint Michael, who was the first to tread pride under foot, pray for me.

All the just who are sanctified, above all, by the spirit of humility, pray for me.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN ARROW PRAYER

Jesus is God! Alas! they say
On earth the numbers grow,
Who His Divinity blaspheme
To their unfailing woe.

~ Fr. F. W. Faber

In 1843, the “GOLDEN ARROW” PRAYER was dictated by Our Lord Himself to Sister Mary of St. Peter, a Carmelite nun, in Tours, France. Just as sins of blasphemy were like a ‘poisoned arrow’ continually wounding God’s Heart, Our Lord said “This Golden Arrow will wound My Heart delightfully, and heal the wounds inflicted by blasphemy.”

Then, in 1844, Sister Mary of St. Peter was given a vision in which she saw the Sacred Heart of Jesus delightfully wounded by the “Golden Arrow” Prayer, as torrents of graces streamed forth from His Heart for the conversion of sinners. Our Lord revealed to her the inseparable connection between honouring the unutterable name of God through the “Golden Arrow” Prayer and venerating the Holy Face of Jesus.
❤‍🔥2
Say this prayer often, to console Jesus, Our Lord and God. It is the central prayer in the Devotion to The Holy Face.

THE GOLDEN ARROW

May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified, in Heaven, on earth and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.

Amen.

Saint Joseph, terror of demons, pray for us.

TO THEE, O BLESSED JOSEPH

TO thee, O blessed Joseph, do we have recourse in our tribulation, and, having implored the help of thy thrice-holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. By that charity wherewith thou wast united to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that fatherly affection with which thou didst embrace the Child Jesus, we beseech thee and we humbly pray, that thou wouldst look graciously upon the inheritance which Jesus Christ hath purchased by His Blood, and assist us in our needs by thy power and strength.
