NOVENA IN HONOR OF THE HOLY FACE OF JESUS
OF THE SHROUD OF TURIN

See how I suffer. Nevertheless, I am understood by so few. What ingratitude on the part of those who say they love Me. I have given My Heart as a sensible object of My great love for man and I give My Face as a sensible object of My sorrow for the sins of man. I desire that It be honored by a Special Feast on Tuesday in Quinquagesima [Shrove Tuesday – the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday]. The Feast will be preceded by a Novena in which the faithful make reparation to Me, uniting themselves in participating with Me in My sorrow.” (Our Lord Jesus Christ to Sister Maria Pierina)

“The sower went out to sow his seed.”

1 of 2
SEXAGESIMA SUNDAY

Distrusting our own powers we should always have perfect confidence in God’s grace which will be “sufficient” for us if we humbly ask for it. May then the seed of God’s Word, contained in the Scriptures, or sown by the teaching Church, find “a right and good heart” in us to receive it, that we may bear much fruit in patience.

Luke 8, 4-15. At that time, when when a very great crowd was gathering together and men from every town were resorting to Jesus, He said in a parable: “The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air ate it up. And other seed fell upon the rock, and as soon as it had sprung up it withered away, because it had no moisture. And other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. And other seed fell upon good ground, and sprang up and yielded fruit a hundredfold.” As He said these things He cried out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” But His disciples then began to ask Him what this parable meant. He said to them, “To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to the rest in parables, that ‘Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’ Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God. And those by the wayside are they who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved. Now those upon the rock are they who, when they have heard, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, but believe for a while, and in time of temptation fall away. And that which fell among the thorns, these are they who have heard, and as they go their way are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not ripen. But that upon good ground, these are they who, with a right and good heart, having heard the word, hold it fast, and bear fruit in patience.” S. Praise be to Thee, O Christ.

DAILY PREPARATORY PRAYER

O Most Holy and Blessed Trinity, through the intercession of Holy Mary, Whose soul was pierced through by a sword of sorrow at the sight of the Passion of Her Divine Son, we ask Thy help in making a perfect Novena of Reparation to Jesus, united with all His sorrows, love and total abandonment.

We now implore all the Angels and Saints to intercede for us as we pray this Holy Novena to the Most Holy Face of Jesus and for the glory of the Most Holy Trinity — Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

FIRST DAY

Console the Holy Face and recite Daily Preparatory Prayer.

PSALM 50 - MISERERE
The repentance and confusion of David after his sin—the Fourth Penitential Psalm. (Psalm 50:3-4)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity.

Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

O Most Holy Face of Jesus, look with tenderness on us who are sinners. Thou art a merciful God, full of love and compassion. Keep us pure of heart, so that we may see Thee always. Mary, our Mother, intercede for us; Saint Joseph, pray for us.

Through the merits of Thy Precious Blood and Thy Holy Face, O Jesus, grant us our petition. . . . My Jesus, pardon and mercy!

PRAYER TO OUR ALMIGHTY FATHER
Almighty Father, come into our hearts, and so fill us with Thy love that forsaking all evil desires, we may embrace Thee, our only Good. Show us, O Lord our God, what Thou art to us. Say to our souls: “I am thy salvation.” Speak so that we may hear. Our hearts are before Thee. Open our ears; let us hasten after Thy voice. Hide not Thy Face from us, we beseech Thee, O Lord. Open our hearts so that Thou mayest enter in. Repair the ruined mansions, that Thou might dwell therein. Hear us, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Thine only Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who livest and reignest with Thee, and the Holy Ghost, one God, now and forever. Amen. (St Augustine)

Pray one (1) Our Father, three (3) Hail Mary’s, one (1) Glory Be.

Doctor of the Church

O

T

A Prayer for the Chief Bishop

O GOD, the pastor and governor of all the faithful, mercifully regard thy servant, (name him,) whom thou hast placed as chief pastor over thy church, grant we beseech thee, that both by word and example, he may edify all those who are under his charge; that, together with the flock committed to his care, he may arrive at life everlasting: through Jesus Christ our Lord and only Saviour, who, with Thee and the Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth one God, world without end. Amen.

SECOND DAY
BEGIN WITH DAILY PREPARATORY PRAYER.

For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me. To Thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before Thee. (Ps. 50:5-6)

Most Holy Face of Jesus, we are truly sorry that we have hurt Thee so much by frequently doing what is wrong, and neglecting to do all the good works we ought. Immaculate Heart of Mary, Saint Joseph, intercede for us. Help us to console the Most Holy Face of Jesus. Pray that we may share in the tremendous love Thou hast for one another, and for the Most Holy and Blessed Trinity. Amen.

Through the merits of Thy Precious Blood and Thy Holy Face, O Jesus, grant us our petition. . . . My Jesus, pardon and mercy!

PRAYER TO THE HOLY GHOST
Come Holy Ghost, Sanctifier, all powerful God of love. Thou Who didst fill the Virgin Mary with grace, Thou Who didst wonderfully transform the hearts of the Apostles, Thou Who didst endow all Thy martyrs with a miraculous heroism, come and sanctify us. Illumine our minds, strengthen our wills, purify our consciences, rectify our judgements, set our hearts on fire and preserve us from the misfortune of resisting Thine inspirations. We consecrate to Thee our understanding, our heart and our will, our whole being for time and eternity. May our understanding be always submissive to Thy heavenly inspirations and to the teaching of Thy Holy Catholic Church of which Thou art the infallible guide. May our hearts be ever inflamed with love of God and neighbor. May our will be ever conformed to the Divine Will. And may our whole life be a faithful imitation of the life and virtues of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to Whom with the Father and Thee be honor and glory forever. Amen.

PRAYER
To Saint Jude Thaddeus ~ To be said when problems arise or when one seems to be deprived of all visible help, or for cases almost despaired of.

M
ost holy Apostle, St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered thy beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused thee to be forgotten by many, but the Church honors and invokes thee universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, of things almost despaired of. Pray for me, I am so helpless and alone.
