It illustrates the second canto of "Hell" from Dante's "Divine Comedy": the poet observes how a hellish whirlwind punishes sinners who have succumbed to carnal sin.

Baby ducks often swim behind their mother in a straight line because it helps them conserve energy and stay safe.
As the mother moves through the water, she creates small waves that reduce water resistance, allowing each duckling to use less effort while following.
This formation also keeps the family together, making it easier for the mother to protect her young from predators and preventing ducklings from becoming separated.
