Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentina international, 28, moves to the Spanish capital in a deal worth in the region of €40million (£34.1m; $46m).

He has signed a long-term contract with Atletico while Spurs hold a 15 per cent sell-on fee.

Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of World Cup-winning Spain forward Ferran Torres from Barcelona.

The 26-year-old moves to the French capital for a fee in the region of €50m (£42.7m; $57.6m) and signs a five-year deal until 2031.

Leeds United and Borussia Mönchengladbach have reached an agreement in principle for Nico Elvedi.

Fee is between €8m and €10m plus add-ons. Opens the door for Sebastiaan Bornauw to depart.

Aston Villa are stepping up their interest in Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, with Emiliano Martinez in negotiations to leave.

The Athletic previously reported Suzuki was among a list of options to replace Martinez should he depart, alongside RC Lens’ Robin Risser.

Villa are now considering pushing ahead with a deal in the region €30m for Suzuki, after the Japan international reportedly received interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Djed Spence has joined Serie A champions Inter from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that could be worth €35m (£29.9m).

Inter’s move for the England international is for an upfront fee in the region of €30m plus add-ons. He has signed a five-year deal until 2031.

Braga have reached a €10million agreement with Barcelona over the signing of La Masia graduate Tommy Marques.

The clubs have agreed a package of an upfront €10m fee plus an additional €2m in add-ons for the 19-year-old, who is expected to have no issues in agreeing personal terms with the Portuguese club.

Marques made his first-team debut last season, coming on as a late substitute in the game at home to Mallorca in La Liga in February. He went on to make one further appearance from the bench in La Liga.

Coventry City have completed the signing of striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest.

The Athletic reported on Saturday Forest were finalising the sale of Awoniyi, 29, to Coventry, and the newly-promoted Premier League club confirmed his arrival on Monday.

The fee is considerably less than the then club-record deal worth £17.2million (€20m;$23.3m) Forest paid to Union Berlin for the Nigeria international in the summer of 2022, according to sources with knowledge of the transfer, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Leeds United have granted striker Joel Piroe permission to undergo a medical at West Ham United.

The Championship side are closing in on signing the 27-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy.

Piroe was viewed as a top transfer target by head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and the recruitment team. His track record in the second tier was also a key factor.

Manchester United are in contract talks with Bruno Fernandes amid the player receiving a lucrative proposal from Galatasaray.

The Turkish club offered the 31-year-old a salary of €20million (£17.1m;$23.2m) a year, but Fernandes wants to remain at United and is in discussions about a new deal.

His existing terms, signed in August 2024, run until 2027, with the option of an additional 12 months.

Ipswich Town’s €15m offer for Bayer Leverkusen’s Argentinian midfielder Exequiel Palacios has been rejected.

The Premier League club are yet to make a second offer, as they consider other options in the market.

Arsenal would like to augment their attack.

Their focus has been on the left wing, but there is some flexibility around this should the right forward become available.

The club have long-term targets such as Kenan Yildiz and Julian Alvarez, and are waiting to see if the market renders one available.

Aston Villa have resumed talks to sign Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich.

Villa still believe they can finalise an agreement for the midfielder, despite interest from Newcastle United, seeking a season-long loan with an option.

The Athletic reported last week Bayern wanted a €30million fee, either as a permanent or as part of an option at the end of a loan.

West Ham United have rejected a loan offer from Aston Villa for full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Villa made an approach of a straight loan but this was dismissed by West Ham.

Villa had been exploring a deal for Wan-Bissaka in recent weeks, with manager Unai Emery keen to strengthen at right-back and provide competition for Matty Cash.

Senegal have announced the appointment of Patrick Vieira as their new head coach.

The permanent job has been vacant since Senegal sacked Pape Thiaw, in charge since 2024, after the national team’s round-of-32 World Cup exit in July.
