As @BlakeSNeff pointed out, Charlie worked hard to elevate Mr. Carl and place him in the administration. I trust Charlie's judgment more than anyone else's.
And these days, your side yells "racist" about anyone who's to the right of Lenin. It's simply code for "wants to stop mass migration." Mr. Carl is fully deserving of his State Department post.
