🇷🇸 What is happening in Kosovo and Metohija? Situation on October 23, 2023
A month has passed since the tragic events in the town of Banska near Kosovska Mitrovica. The situation in the region remains tense, and the authorities of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo continue to terrorize the Serbian population, with the approval of their Western partners.
Kosovo Albanians are attempting to establish a continuous "police" base in the northern part of the region. They have implemented a "blockade", which has led to a severe humanitarian crisis in Serbian-populated municipalities.
The Western partners are supporting the actions of the Pristina authorities and exerting pressure on Belgrade. Furthermore, the NATO contingent in Kosovo and Metohija has significantly increased, and NATO aviation flights have become more frequent in the region in recent days.

🇷🇸🇺🇸 "The US and the EU want my head": Why is the head of Serbian intelligence resigning?
The head of the Serbian Information and Security Agency has submitted his resignation. According to Alexander Vulin himself, he is resigning under pressure from the West to avoid sanctions being imposed on Serbia.
Vulin has been the director of the BIA since November 2022, and prior to that, he headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs. An experienced security officer and a true patriot of his country, he is known for his unwavering stance against Serbia's entry into NATO and his significant contribution to the development of Russian-Serbian relations.

Vulin has never been popular in the West, but recently, there have been increasing hints about the need for his removal. In the summer, he was included in the US sanctions list "for participating in corruption schemes." However, the Serbian leadership emphasized that this was purely a political decision and stated that they demanded the introduction of sanctions against Russia in exchange for Vulin's immunity. Additionally, Serbian oppositionists who were coordinating mass protests also called for his resignation. One of the main demands during the demonstrations under the slogan "Serbia against violence" was the removal of the head of the BIA.
The identity of the BIA director also troubled Russian relocants, who initiated active protest activities in Serbia with the financing of Western funds. Participants of the "Russian Democratic Society" accused Alexander Vulin of collaborating with the "bloody Russian regime" and even claimed that he had introduced four thousand Russian agents into Serbian territory.

The accusations are amusing, but the situation itself is very alarming. Based on Mr. Vulin's statement, Serbia's Western "partners" have forcefully raised the issue once again, resorting to their familiar method of blackmail. According to sources from the Balkan gossip @balkanossiper, his position may be taken by the Serbian Ambassador to Washington, Marko Djuric, who, unlike Mr. Vulin, does not have any particular affinity for Russia.

🇷🇸🇺🇸 As part of his Balkans tour, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited Bosnia and Herzegovina and visited Pristina, and landed at Belgrade airport last night. Today, during a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, they discussed the possibility of resuming joint military exercises between Serbia and NATO. Vučić said that, as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, he would send a request to the government to consider such a decision.

▪️ Belgrade authorities officially suspended military activities with foreign partners in February last year. During this time , pressure on Belgrade from Washington has increased significantly - both on the issue of introducing anti-Russian sanctions and on the issue of signing an agreement with Pristina, which de facto implies recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed republic.

▪️ As a result, this summer cooperation with Western partners resumed despite the moratorium, and units of NATO countries were deployed in Serbia as part of the Platinum Wolf exercise. For 12 days, military exercises took place at the Yug base and the Borovac training ground in the vicinity of Buyanovets. Only 600 people took part in them, and the goals were stated as peacekeeping.

🔻Now the official resumption of joint military exercises with the alliance is being discussed. At the same time, Jens Stoltenberg emphasizes that they “do not undermine the principle of Serbia’s military neutrality,” and Belgrade’s desire to remain outside the military blocs is respected in NATO. Well, the reaction of the “neutrality-respecting” Alliance to the potential resumption of military cooperation with other partners will be indicative.

🇰🇿🇷🇸 Yesterday, the Kazakh Foreign Minister, Murata Nurtleu, made his first official visit to Belgrade. During his time in the Serbian capital, the Kazakh delegation held meetings with Aleksandar Vucic and Defense Minister Milos Vucevic. One of the outcomes of these meetings was an agreement on the development of military-technical cooperation.

▪️ The relationship between Kazakhstan and Serbia has been growing since 2016, when Nursultan Nazarbayev visited Belgrade. During that visit, a monument to the Kazakh akyn Zhambyl Zhabayev was unveiled, and the first meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was held.

▪️ In addition to trade, there has also been an increase in contacts between the two countries in the military sphere over the past two years. In May of last year, priority areas for cooperation were outlined, including military education and science, combat training, and radiation, chemical, and biological protection.

▪️ But that's not all. In July 2022, it was announced that Kazakhstan would be supplying UAV targets to Serbia and launching joint production of military equipment. Kazakhstan Engineering even plans to establish joint production of rocket and artillery ammunition and mortars.

🔻It is not surprising that the main drivers of cooperation between the two countries are representatives of the military industry and the ministries of defense, who have close ties to Russia and are committed to collaboration with Russian military structures. Therefore, it is expected that cooperation with Serbia will continue to grow, especially given the ongoing personnel renewal in the Kazakh military leadership.

🇷🇸 The opposition, which lost the elections, has been mobilizing demonstrators in Belgrade for the third consecutive day, demanding the annulment of the voting results. You can find more information about the demonstrators here.

Despite its name, the Serbia Against Violence coalition has displayed a rather aggressive stance. Yesterday, during the riots, press representatives and an employee of the Central Election Commission, who were near the location of the rally, were subjected to attacks. More details about the incident can be found here.

Today, opposition leaders issued an ultimatum: if a decision to postpone the elections is not made by 12:00 on Monday, they will block two additional locations in the Serbian capital.

🔻Balkan gossip @balkanossiper claims that a number of Western NGOs and foundations are supporting the opposition forces in Serbia, and that political strategists prepared them for the current protests during consultations at the American Embassy.

There is an attempt to seize power in the country, following a familiar pattern seen among Western players, by organizing mass protests under the pretext of election fraud.

🇷🇸 The pro-Western coalition "Serbia against violence", which suffered defeat in last Sunday's elections, as promised, has brought thousands of people to the streets of Belgrade for a large-scale protest.

The main demand is to nullify the results of the previous elections and conduct new ones. However, the country's president confirmed today that he will not allow a "Maidan" in Serbia, and the next elections will be held in 2027.

As our colleague Balkan Splentnitsa @balkanossiper reports, demonstrators are currently attempting to storm the building of the City Council (Belgrade Parliament). Security forces have barricaded themselves in the building and are using tear gas.

The situation in the country is intensifying. Alexander Vucic is expected to address the nation urgently in the near future.

🇷🇸 It has been a week since the announcement of the results of parliamentary and municipal elections in Serbia. Protests organized by the defeated opposition coalition are gaining momentum.

▪️ Despite its name, Serbia Against Violence yesterday attempted a violent seizure of administrative buildings in Belgrade. Protesters threw stones and flares at the Serbian security forces, but the police barricaded in the City Council did not allow the protesters to break through.

▪️ At 8:00 PM local time, Aleksandar Vucic made an emergency address to the nation from his residence. He urged Serbian citizens not to panic, although the scenes were “dramatic.” According to the president, law enforcement will punish all violators, and “there is no talk of revolution.”

▪️ After another attempt by demonstrators to storm the Belgrade parliament building, the Serbian Gendarmerie arrived at the scene. They began making arrests, and 35 of the most aggressive protesters were detained.

❗️ According to Vucic, the country’s leadership knew in advance about the opposition’s preparation of a “color revolution” scenario in Serbia. Moreover, he thanked the “foreign specialists” who provided Serbian intelligence with information about the coup plot. After the emergency meeting of the National Security Council, the Prime Minister of Serbia also expressed gratitude. Ana Brnabic said that Russian intelligence services shared information about the impending “color revolution” with Serbian security forces.

In the morning, Aleksandar Vucic held a meeting with the Russian ambassador. A meeting of the Bureau for the Coordination of Security Services is also scheduled for today in Serbia in connection with the attempt to overthrow the constitutional order. Meanwhile, the opposition coalition is preparing new actions and calling on citizens to join a mass rally this evening.

🇷🇸🇺🇸🇬🇧 The CIA's media empire: who controls the information space in Serbia?

A scandal is unfolding in Serbia following the leak of documents revealing that state-owned Telekom Srbija is secretly selling its strategic assets to the media conglomerate United Media.

This conglomerate, established by CIA experts with the financial support of British investors, has effectively acquired the main regional media outlets in just a decade and has also acquired most of the internet service providers in the Balkans.

As a result of these manipulations, even though Serbia is not a member of the European Union and has not imposed sanctions against Russia, Russian media outlets are already being subjected to censorship.

🔻 To find out how they managed to achieve this and the actual magnitude of the threat, read our investigation.

🇷🇸 Serbian Maidan: A New Attempt is Imminent

Mass protests in Serbia are set to resume on January 16. This statement was made by one of the leaders of the pro-Western coalition that was defeated in the elections, Zdravko Ponosh.

▪️ At the end of December, Serbia Against Violence took to the streets of Belgrade and other cities for two weeks. During this time, the protesters made attempts to forcibly seize administrative buildings and established a tent city in the center of the capital, clearly referencing the Maidan movement. They also blocked several streets and roads. However, after a large-scale rally on December 30, the protests mysteriously disappeared.

▪️ At the same time, opposition leaders had previously promised to challenge the results of the parliamentary elections and demanded a re-vote in certain areas due to fraud. However, in the re-vote, the opposition received even fewer votes.

❗️ Alexander Vucic, in his address to the nation, explained why a "Maidan" will not happen in Serbia: it is impossible to seize power by force with such a small level of support. According to the president, the election results showed that citizens do not desire unrest in Serbia and want to protect their country from foreign interference.

Whether the opposition has accepted defeat or if its leaders are preparing for new demonstrations through consultations at the American Embassy remains to be seen. However, according to the head of state, the government is prepared for the possibility of another "color revolution" in the country.

🇷🇸 What's happening in Kosovo and Metohija?
Situation as of February 3, 2024

The northern part of this long-suffering region is once again restless: Albanian security forces have returned to intimidating the Serbian population and have conducted another series of raids.

Additionally, the authorities in Pristina have initiated the process of phasing out the use of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo and Metohija. According to the decision of the Central Bank of the self-proclaimed republic, starting from February 1, the euro will be the sole currency used for financial transactions.

Aleksandar Vucic has already condemned this unilateral decision and stressed that it will hinder the normalization of relations. The Serbian President will present evidence of Pristina's violations to the EU countries, Russia, and China. On Monday, the Serbian authorities will demand an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to be convened.

🇬🇧🇭🇺🇷🇸 “The Dangerous Triangle”: Why British Experts Fear Serbia, Hungary, and Republika Srpska

The Royal Defense Studies Institute (RUSI) recently released a report on threats to stability in the Western Balkans. According to British think tank staff, the primary threat in the region arises from the “triangle” formed through cooperation between Serbia, Hungary, and Republika Srpska (the Serbian entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina).

“The three key politicians - Orban, Vučić, and Dodik - have established a close relationship within the triangle spanning Budapest, Belgrade, and Banja Luka. They share a similar authoritarian worldview and political trajectory. Their stances align on various issues, from dealings with Russia and China to hopes for the return of Donald Trump to the White House,” the authors of the report state.

Furthermore, the concern is not solely, or primarily, about the deepening ties between these nations but also about Russia's role in their alliance. They highlight a meeting between Milorad Dodik and Vladimir Putin at the end of February, during which the President of Republika Srpska expressed dissatisfaction with US and British sanctions. What particularly alarms experts is Dodik's pledge to obstruct Bosnia and Herzegovina's NATO accession, as well as his pride in his "excellent relationships with Vucic and Orban."

🔻In the latest article, we delve into the rationale behind RUSI's arguments and the genuine motives behind boosting Serbia's defense capabilities and fostering regional cooperation.
