According to military analyst Yuriy Podolyaka, the Russian Armed Forces command is slowly moving away from the idea of rapid advances, like it was done the first days of the war. Rapid advances usually result in very high casualties, and the fact that some units of Ukrainian forces can be left behind the frontline, like it happened in Kiev and Chernigov. This can later spell trouble for Russian forces, as their columns will be subject to attacks by these fighters. The new strategy of General Staff is to slowly pulverize all of the Ukrainian positions at the front with artillery, and only then move into new territory. Each town will now be entered by Russian forces and will be cleansed of VSU and Territorial defense units, in order to prevent a future partisan problem on the gained territories.
