“With today’s announcement of $3 billion for zero-emission port equipment and planning, we’re seeing that economic prosperity and cleaner air can go hand in hand. With support from the U.S. EPA, near-port communities, who suffer some of the greatest impacts of diesel exhaust pollution in our country, are turning the page on a new zero-emission chapter. As ports shift from polluting vehicles and other equipment to emissions-free versions, the impact will be palpable. The Clean Ports program delivers a critical downpayment on a cleaner future to communities from sea to shining sea. We were pleased that the program’s scoring criteria emphasized environmental justice and meaningful community engagement, prioritizing those who stand the most to gain from this historic investment.”
