A long streak of snow spans several states in the central US, laid down by a recent blizzard and winter storm event.

Moonlight at night makes the snow visible on the surface. https://t.co/llgTIoGnlq

Today is International Day of Forests! 🌳

Forests are the backbone of global food security and nutrition, sustaining millions of people by providing essential foods that are critical for Indigenous and rural communities. Forests strengthen agriculture networks by hosting pollinators, enriching soil, regulating climate, and conserving biodiversity. They also provide energy for activities like cooking and supply freshwater to over 85% of the world’s major cities. Quite simply, healthy forests mean thriving food systems.

Yet, these irreplaceable ecosystems are under threat. Every year, 10 million hectares of forest are lost to deforestation, while wildfires affect approximately 70 million hectares. Protecting and restoring primary forests is not just an environmental necessity - it’s essential for securing food systems, livelihoods, and the health of communities across the world.

On this International Day of Forests, we call for urgent action. The future of food begins in the forests. Let’s work together to keep them standing.

RT @CANIntl: Climate Action Network is in solidarity with Greenpeace and all civil society organisations affected by the repressive actions of big polluting corporations.

The fossil fuel industry knows that its existence is a threat to the existence of people and the planet. The climate movement will not - and cannot - be silenced.

#WeWillNotBeSilenced

👊🌈🌎

You can’t sue a rainbow 🌈

No matter what happens in any courtroom – our global intersectional climate movement will only keep growing stronger and louder 💚🌎

#WeWillNotBeSilenced

The fossil fuel industry is desperate to silence and divide us — but we will always defend the right to peaceful protest. And we will continue to do what we have always done: advocate for the planet, for justice, and for future generations.
