Americans’ sympathies in the Middle East are now evenly split, with 41% saying they sympathize more with the Palestinians and 36% with the Israelis — a shift from decades in which Israel held a clear lead.

Younger Americans are driving the shift in U.S. opinion on the Middle East.

Among adults 18–34, 53% now sympathize more with Palestinians, the first majority for that view, while just 23% sympathize more with Israelis — a record low.
