OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told staff the company is exploring a Pentagon deal that could help resolve a dispute between Anthropic and the Defense Department over battlefield AI use.

“We are going to see if there is a deal with the DoW that allows our models to be deployed in classified environments and that fits with our principles,” Altman wrote, adding OpenAI would seek to block uses such as “domestic surveillance and autonomous offensive weapons.”

He said OpenAI wants to “help de-escalate things” and would rely on technical safeguards—like limiting deployment to cloud environments—to prevent misuse.

BIG: Emirati officials say Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman asked Trump to impose sanctions on the UAE over its support for Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Saudi officials deny this, saying they only requested sanctions against the RSF itself.

When Trump conveyed the message to the Emirati President, the UAE leadership believed Saudi Arabia had pushed for U.S. sanctions against them, triggering anger and a sharp deterioration in relations.
