Fares Abraham, a Palestinian-American Christian from Beit Sahour (near Bethlehem), describes life under expanding Jewish settlements as “slow suffocation”.

Fares Abraham — who says his family’s roots in the Holy Land go back to the time of Jesus — explains the situation with an analogy:

“Imagine they come and build a fence around this property, and now it cuts your property in half… San Diego becomes fragmented… They take the water resources, build walls and sniper towers, and you see the Mexican army coming to protect those new settlers.”

He says the settlers “are not coming to be neighbors. They’re coming to take the land.”

According to him, Beit Sahour is now encircled by settlements:

“It’s like slow suffocation. It prevents natural growth.”

He shared a personal story about his cousin, a Christian mother who sends her kids to an American evangelical school nearby.

After a new settlement was built, a checkpoint was installed on the route.

“One day she was taking her children to school, and the Israeli army pointed guns at them, instructing her to let the kids walk across the checkpoint alone.”

She told her six-year-old:

“You’re strong. You can do this. The teacher on the other side will receive you.”

After walking past the armed soldiers, the child fainted at school.

“This is not theoretical for us. This is reality… The army is always present to protect the settlers.”

“This brings trauma. It brings nightmares. That’s what Christian families in Beit Sahour are experiencing.”

Palestinian-American Christian Fares Abraham (from Beit Sahour near Bethlehem, family roots back to the time of Jesus) says life near expanding Jewish settlements shaped his childhood, including watching his mother get shot when he was 10.

He says their home was close to a settlers-only bypass road used by Israeli military vehicles.

In 1990, when he was 10 years old:

“I saw an Israeli soldier step out of the vehicle, point a rifle at us, and start shooting at us.”

He says they were just kids outside — his siblings, cousins, and mother.

“He started shooting live ammunition at us. My mother rushed us inside. She was the last one to get in. She caught a bullet in the back.”

His mother collapsed “in a pool of blood” but survived after his father and uncle (a physician) got her to a hospital.

“I saw this happen in front of my own eyes.”

What struck Tucker Carlson wasn’t just the story, but Abraham’s demeanor.

“I detected no bitterness whatsoever in anything that you said.”

Abraham attributes that to faith:

“Palestinian Christians take the Sermon on the Mount very seriously.”
