NEW: U.S. B-52 bombers flew with Japanese F-35 and F-15 fighters over the Sea of Japan on Wednesday, in what Tokyo called a show of force responding to recent Chinese and Russian military activity.

Japan’s defense ministry said the drill reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to oppose any attempt to change the regional status quo by force.
