BIG: India-Russia Reaffirm S-400 Deal, Fighter Jet Upgrades

Russia confirmed it will deliver the remaining two S-400 squadrons to India by 2026โ€“2027.

Delays were caused by the Ukraine war; India has already deployed three squadrons near Pakistan and China.

Talks also covered upgrades for Su-30MKI jets with new radars, EW systems, and air-to-air missiles.

Russia and India are exploring further S-400 deals.

Ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz are transmitting unusual messages declaring their supposed national ties โ€” such as โ€œChina ownedโ€ or โ€œRussian crudeโ€ โ€” in an effort to appear neutral and avoid being targeted, according to maritime analytics firm Windward and recent tracking data.

The practice began after fighting erupted earlier this month between Israel and Iran. Although Trump brokered a ceasefire after 12 days of conflict, the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) says the maritime threat remains elevated.

Windward identified 55 vessels that broadcast 101 atypical messages between June 12 and 24 across the Gulf and Red Sea. The goal appears to be distancing ships from Western ties, particularly the U.S., UK, and Israel, which are perceived as higher-risk targets.

Examples from recent days include a Panama-flagged container ship en route to Pakistan broadcasting โ€œPKKHI all Chinese,โ€ and a China-flagged supertanker initially broadcasting โ€œChinese shipโ€ before switching to โ€œCN NBGโ€ โ€” its port in Ningbo โ€” after clearing the Strait. A Singapore-flagged container ship crossing the Red Sea signaled โ€œVsl no link Israel.โ€

On June 24, commercial ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz spiked 30%, just one day after the ceasefire. Roughly one-fifth of global oil supply passes through the strait.

JMIC also warned of increasing GPS jamming and electronic interference in the region, which can throw ships off course and raise the risk of collisions.
