BIG: Pentagon Reviews AUKUS Submarine Deal

The Pentagon has launched a review of the AUKUS submarine deal with the UK and Australia, raising concerns it could be scrapped.

Led by Elbridge Colby, a top defense official critical of the pact, the review has alarmed allies as it questions U.S. commitment to selling Virginia-class subs to Australia by 2032.

Colby previously warned the U.S. needs every nuclear sub it has for a potential Taiwan conflict, and that aiding Australia without firm wartime commitments could be risky.

The AUKUS deal includes co-developing SSN-AUKUS subs by the 2040s and represents a key trilateral security pillar in the Indo-Pacific.
