How Mehmed II Outsmarted Constantinople’s Sea Defenses
To bypass the massive chain guarding the Golden Horn, Mehmed II (Mehmed the Conqueror) did the unthinkable: he hauled 70–80 warships overland.
To bypass the massive chain guarding the Golden Horn, Mehmed II (Mehmed the Conqueror) did the unthinkable: he hauled 70–80 warships overland.
Starting near Dolmabahçe, Ottoman forces used greased logs to drag ships uphill through Taksim and down to Kasımpaşa — a 1.5 to 3 km route. Most of the operation happened at night, avoiding detection.
On April 22, 1453, the fleet entered the Golden Horn — shocking the Byzantines.
This forced them to split their defenses, weakening their land resistance. A month later, on May 29, Constantinople fell.

Russia’s African Recruits: Behind the Frontlines
From 2022 to 2025, Russia covertly recruited across Africa, targeting Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, Togo, and Sierra Leone.
Zambian prisoners were sent to war. In Togo and Sierra Leone, youths were misled with fake job offers. Cameroonians were lured by caretaker roles.
Promised money, citizenship, or amnesty, many were coerced. African soldiers ended up fighting far from home—for a cause not their own.
