PA tells US it is ready to 'clash' with Hamas for control of Gaza

The PA has told the US it's ready to "clash" with Hamas to take control of Gaza. It plans to govern Gaza through a committee, mostly made up of outsiders.

The proposal was presented to Steve Witkoff, a Trump administration envoy, at a Riyadh meeting brokered by Saudi Arabia. Ziad Abu Amr, a US citizen and former Palestinian deputy prime minister, is set to run Gaza under PA control.

A senior US defence official dismissed the PA's claim to be ready to fight Hamas as 'delusional' and suggested that outside military support would be needed.

Hamas continues to demonstrate military control. With Trump back in power and his lack of direct contact with the PA, the PA fears sidelining.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia are key players in Gaza's future. The UAE wants new Palestinian leadership; Saudi Arabia is neutral. Trump has shown little interest in Gaza, suggesting the Palestinians be relocated.

Almost half of Danes now see the US as a significant threat to their country, and the overwhelming majority oppose Greenland leaving to become part of the US, according to new polls.

The poll found that 46% thought the US was either a 'very big' or 'quite big' threat to Denmark.

This is higher than the number who said they felt threatened by North Korea or Iran - 44% and 40% respectively. But the threat posed by Russia remains significantly higher, with 86% of respondents saying they consider Moscow to be a threat.

Of those surveyed, 78% said they would oppose the sale of Greenland to the USA, but 72% said the final decision should be Greenland's, not Denmark's.

Aides to Elon Musk at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) have locked career civil servants out of key computer systems containing sensitive federal employee data.

Musk, appointed to downsize the federal workforce, has quickly placed allies at OPM and revoked senior employees' access to critical databases.

Officials warn that the lack of oversight could pose cybersecurity risks. Affected employees can still use basic functions like email but cannot access workforce data.

OPM memos encourage employees to accept buyout offers and take vacations. Experts, including Don Moynihan, raise concerns over congressional oversight and transparency within the agency.

The EU’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, urged member states to increase defense spending to address growing security threats.

She emphasized that all public spending is at risk if defense is neglected.

Kallas acknowledged that Donald Trump was right to criticize Europe's low defense budget, which averages 1.9% of GDP.

Kallas highlighted Russia’s 9% GDP defense spending, stating that Europe’s current investment is insufficient given the war in Ukraine. To prevent future conflicts, she stressed the need for higher military expenditure.

Kallas also called for economic pressure on Russia, hinting at a new sanctions package next month to mark three years since the invasion of Ukraine.
