79 years ago today: On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped a uranium bomb, nicknamed “Little Boy,” on Hiroshima, Japan.
— The bomb had an explosive yield equivalent to 15,000 tons of TNT, devastating the city and burning approximately 70% of it.
— Within the first few months, the bombing killed an estimated 140,000 people in Hiroshima.
— Roughly 50% of those within 1.2 kilometers of the hypocenter died that day, with 80-100% mortality rates approaching the explosion site.
— Many more died in the following years from the effects of radiation exposure, including leukemia, cancer, and other diseases.

— Ukraine requested permission to use American-made ATACMS missiles to strike this high-value target.
— The Biden administration denied this request, maintaining its policy of only allowing ATACMS use within Russian-occupied Ukraine.
— Many Su-34s are now based hundreds of miles from the border, beyond the range of most Ukrainian drones and ATACMS.
