On February 28, 2026, the U.S. and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on multiple sites across Iran, saying the operation was aimed at limiting Iran’s military and missile capabilities. Iranian authorities condemned the attacks as a violation of their sovereignty and responded with missile and drone strikes targeting U.S. and allied positions in the region. The strikes mark a major escalation after years of rising tensions, and the situation remains fluid as more details about the targets and casualties continue to emerge.

At the same time, Israel has stepped up its military operations in Palestine with Rafah which was once the main place people fled to in the south is now largely under Israeli control after expanded ground offensives. Israeli officials say the goal is to dismantle Hamas infrastructure and the remaining fighters believed to be operating there. Palestinian authorities and humanitarian groups describe heavy destruction, large-scale displacement, and serious shortages of food, water, and medical supplies as the fighting continues. Rafah which had sheltered hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians earlier in the war has been hit hard, adding to the already severe humanitarian situation in Palestine.
